Hot on the heels of that success, The King was persuaded to record in Memphis, Tennessee for the first time since leaving Sun Records 14 years earlier. This album was recorded at the American Studio owned by Chips Moman. Backing up Elvis were the studios house band, all superb exponents of their craft: Reggie Young (guitar), Bobby Emmons (keyboards), Tommy Cogbill (bass) and Gene Chrisman (drums). ...Now,when it comes to Elvis Presley I can write with passion and real love.Having been a fan since I was 6 years old, I possess practically all his recorded works.This includes many unofficial ,as well as official, releases and many DVDs and videos. So,I guess I consider myself a bit of an "Elvis-Expert"! As most people will be aware from all the media exposure and all those single releases that dominated the top end of the charts from January until recently,this is the year that would have seen Elvis turn 70 years old and his Estate,Priscilla,BMG et al are not letting that pass without a chance for some more releases! But are they any good? Well,this double CD set IS undoubtedly an opportunistic release-Priscilla has been all over tv and radio promoting her lavish coffe-table book and DVD of the TV Special. Advantages: Pure Elvis (the first live global satellite broadcast in history !)
Disadvantages: None what so ever !

...When Elvis finished his 'movie career' he decided that he needed to perform in concert again. He felt that he had lost touch with his fans and needed to get back to what was important, making music. This came in the form of the 1968 comeback special which was a huge success. He performed to a small informal audience with his original band members looking oh so sexy in black leather sang his classics and talked about his life and chatted with his band members and cracked jokes. Elvis was back. He then became a headliner again in Las Vegas and was determined to leave the movies behind him and perform to live audiences again.
