well as some great singles and individual album tracks, which is why the 70s box set Walk a Mile in My Shoes is as good a buy as the 50s and 60s compilations. He also made a slew of live albums--so which ones to pick? Obviously, the 1968 NBC "comeback" was special, and various recordings exist; still, it's better viewed as a video. The 1972 Madison Square Garden recordings and 1973's Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite often seem zombie-like, and it's basically downhill from there. Thus, it's a toss-up between In Person at the International Hotel, his rockin' first Vegas appearance following his "comeback" TV special, and the Vegas appearance on this CD, recorded a year later--and offering more unique musical fruits. It's Elvis doing songs associated with others (Engelbert Humperdinck, Neil Diamond, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Beatles), though "The Wonder of You" became a hit single. The band is hot: just listen to James Burton's scorching guitar solo on the cover of Del Shannon's "Runaway". The background vocalists are sensational (they help make Elvis's cover of "Let It Be Me" the definitive version), and the whole thing sounds Phil Spector-esque. In fact, "The Wonder of You" sounds so angelic, it's hard to believe it's live. --Bill Holdship
Advantages: Great Songs, Great Sound! Disadvantages: None
...I loved this album! Elvis by the Presleys is a must-have!
I love Elvis, but why should I buy this album? I also have a son/daughter who wants to get into Elvis, would this be the right album to buy?
Yes, definately! You should buy this album for your son/daughter and yourself as this album is comprised of some of Elvis' best and inspirational songs! You won't regret buying this album, trust me!
OK, so what songs ARE on there?
There are some great songs on this brilliant album, songs like: If I Can Dream (which was made a duet with a very real Celine Dion and a digitally placed Elvis on the stage of American Idol on the show's chairty special: Idol Gives Back),Bridge Over Troubled Water, Suspicious Minds, My Way, Jailhouse Rock and A Little Less Conversation.
How's the quality of the tracks?
Darn tootin' good! The songs really come...

Advantages: Another towering Elvis performance Disadvantages: None whatsoever
...I'm sure you are all aware of the state of Elvis by the mid 1970s. The fried peanut butter sandwiches, on the spot purchases of Cadillacs and thousand dollar jewellery, not to mention Priscilla leaving him.....all well documented, and especially in that extremely readable book by his aides Red West and Dave Hebler (Elvis; What Happened?) His recording output had fallen away in both quality and quantity since the blockbuster 1969 release of From Elvis In Memphis, although he could still "pack em in" for the live shows.
By now The King could not even be bothered to turn up for recording sessions. Two new albums were needed for 1976 though, so therefore it was decided that the studio should be put into Gracelands itself, a somewhat unusual arrangement to say the least. Even then Elvis didn't always show up on time for the cuts...

Advantages: Elvis Presley singing some wonderful music Disadvantages: The tracks have been released and re-released many times over the years
...People often recall ElvisPresley as the early rock 'n' roller in the mid-1950s, or the less rocking star of some (sometimes) decidedly dodgy movies from the 1960s, or as the Las Vegas singer of the 1970s. One style of music which straddles all of these time periods though is gospel.
Elvis was always a great lover of gospel music, and often spent hours singing this type of music with his backing singers in his own private time.
Elvis' record company, BMG, have spent the last 29 years (since his death) repackaging his recorded material, and still release many CDs each year, collecting together already released material and unreleased material from the archives (this unreleased music is often distributed through their specialist Elvis label FTD - short for 'Follow That Dream' which was the title of one of Elvis' movies from the 1960s...
