The Emanicpation of Mimi is Mariah Carey's 14th album release (released in 2005), since her debut self titled album release in 1990. Her 15 year career has endured many ups and downs from her intitial rise on the scene as a shy but stunning "girl next door" to her divorce from Columbia records producer Tommy Motolla, and her - almost - immediate "emancipation", which saw a complete image change to a much more sexy provocative woman, before a very public downward spiral complete with bouts of depression and suicidal tendencies. Mariah has recovered from this last phase of her life and following a couple of unsuccessful album releases has come back strong with "The Emancipation of Mimi". The one thing I feel Mariah has badly let herself down with is the image, as it is obvious she has had some work done and - to me - looks much more plastic these days, which spoils her natural beauty. Spoilt her looks may be, but the music has come back as strong as ever.
Mariah is described by some as a bit of a "screamer" ... I haven't been that fortunate to actually meet her and subsequently spend a night with her, so I wouldn't know !!! However, my most recently ex-girlfiriend had a look of Mariah in her early days and ...... anyway ... off-track. But seriously, Mariah Carey rose to superstardom on the strength of her stunning five-octave voice, which for some sounds a little like she can be screaming. I just believe she has an incredible talent with a stunning range, which is often encapsulated in several songs on her albums. Her style has changed a little from her beginnings, when there was a mix of gospel music and strong ballads. Her style, whilst remaining true to the core in terms of ballads, has become influenced by hip-hop-inspired dance-pop, earning her frequent comparisons to rivals Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, but has gained more recognition by composing all of her own material - not just a pretty face !!
Born in Long Island, New York, on March 27, 1970, Carey moved to New York City just one day after graduating high school at the tender age of 17, committed to pursuing a music career. As I say, she has come a long way since her big break and "The Emancipation of Mimi" is the latest edition to her lengthy discography, involving a number of record labels, from Columbia, to Virgin Records, to the latest, "The Island Def Jam Music Group".
The album itself as very different to her beginnings and could be contrasted to the style of the latest great Diva "Beyonce". The style of the album is very much R&B / soul, with a heavy hip-hop / rap influence, demonstrated no less by the collaborations with Snoop Dogg, Jermain Dupri, Twista, and Nelly.
THE ALBUM;
The Album sleeve design provides a very classy feel to the album ... Black background, with a photograph of Mariah Carey posing in a silver cocktail dress, complete with Mariah Carey boldly printed in silver across the middle of the cover.
Inside the sleeve are one or two pictures of the singer, along with instructions on how to join the Mariah Carey fan club, an explanantion of the meaning of "Emancipation", along with the words to each of the songs featured on the album.
1. It's Like That - Heavy Rap influence ... With the inclusion of the one and only Fat Man Scoop (8/10).
2. We Belong Together - Slow Ballad and very typical of Mariah's earlier work, with beautiful mixture of piano, vocal and bass (10/10).
3. Shake It Off - A track that reminds me more of Beyonce more than typical Mariah, but a good slow R&B track (8/10).
4.Mine Again - Another slow ballad typical of Mariah's historic style (7/10).
5. Say Somethin' [Featuring Snoop Dog] - Excellent R&B track, smooth and chilled, with Snoop as typical Snoop.... cool (8/10).
6. Stay The Night - A little more up-tempo track, with heavy play on vocal and percussion, with piano in the background. Good demonstration of Mariah's vocal range (7/10).
7. Get Your Number [Featuring Jermaine Dupri] - Starts with Jermaine rapping and Mariah enters the scene just under the 40 second mark. Up-tempo and funky (7/10).
8. One And Only [Featuring Twista] - Mid-tempo R&B track (7/10).
9. Circles - Slow-tempo soul track (6/10).
10. Your Girl - Mid-tempo soul track (7/10).
11. I Wish You Knew - Slow ballad, very typical of Mariah's earlier work (7/10).
12. To The Floor [Featuring Nelly] - Influence of Nelly is quite clear on this track, which is very R&B in flavour (8/10).
13. Joy Ride - Ballad, with a soulful mix of vocals and piano (7/10).
14. Fly Like A Bird - Slow chilled soulful track (7/10).
16. Don't Forget About Us - Slow-tempo soulful track, which almost passes as a ballad (6/10).
17. Makin' It Last All Night (What It Do) [Featuring Jermaine Dupri] - Slow-tempo R&B track (7/10).
18. So Lonely (One & Only Part II) [Mariah Carey & Twista] - R&B Rap track, slow to mid-tempo musically, but Twista's lyrics certainly raise the tempo of the track (8/10).
19. We Belong Together Remix [Featuring Jadakiss & Styles P) - Up-tempo remix of ballad, with heavier emphasis on rap and hip-hop (9/10).EXCLUSIVE DVD INCLUDES;
Video - We Belong Together
Video - It's Like That
Video - Shake It Off
Video - Get Your Number
DVD Options: 1. Play All; 2. Chapters; 3. Web Link - Provides bonus material, which can be accessed by installing software from the DVD on your PC, but I haven't bothered.
Advantages: One of Mariah's best albums to date Disadvantages: A bit too R'n'B for some fans
This album got rave reviews from critics. They were saying Mariah has created a great comeback. She's gone back to basics with good old school R'n'B and she uses that amazing voice that has won millions of fans around the world over. Her first single It's Like that was a R'n'B headbanger. It had a hardbeat and repetitive lyrics. It wasn't until the major smash We Belong Together was released that everyone knew Mariah was the best out at the moment. ... ...and the video she did for it. It was number one for over 16 weeks in the US and went down in History.
Shake it off was another upbeat song but not too Hardcore, it is a song which can be played in the background over and over again without getting annoying. However my favoruite tracks on the album are Stay the Night, which was produced by Kanye West. This song is soo rhythm driven it makes you just wanna get to the nearest club and get your jiggy ...

Advantages: 15 tracks, something for everyone, suprisingly cool Disadvantages: a few too many ballads.
Mariah Carey was on the verge of hitting rock bottom, average albums, suggested insanity and a film career in tatters before it had even left the ground. Then came The Emancipation, possibly one of the greatest come-back albums ever. It has a host of great tracks that I will review each one on an individual basis in track-list order;

The first single to be taken from the album featuring the hardworking ... ...role. This doesn't pretend to be something it's not, It's Like That was made for the clubs and it proceeded to rip up dancefloors for months and was ever present in the Billboard chart for well over half a year. A great opening track and a great comeback track which made R&B heads stand up and listen, Mariah was back.
02. We Belong together
---------------------
Written by Johnta Austin, We Belong Together was Mariah's massive R&B ballad which ...

Advantages: the album is so unique Disadvantages: a few of songs is make me bored
EM=C2 is Mariah's abum with great effort, in my opinion after her last album, this album is show Mariah as the real diva. This album contains 20 songs, for Ultra Premiun Deluxe Edition. There are many good song in this album, but the song that I will recommend to you is We Belong Together (an RnB song with unique music and can-remember-lyrics), the song is also awarded Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best RnB Song in Grammy Award. Next one ... ...lyrics, I thinks this is the best song in this album. Other song, like It's Like That, Get Your Number is also good. Track Listing in this album: 1. "It's like That" (Mariah Carey, Jermaine Dupri, Manuel Seal, Johnta Austin) – 3:23 2. "We Belong Together" (Carey, Dupri, Seal, Austin, Darnell Bristol, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Sidney DeWayne, Bryan-Michael Cox, Bobby Womack, Patrick Moten, Sandra Sully) – 3:21 3. I wasn’t to keen on Mariah Carey’s music until she made a come back last year. To be completely honest with you her voice really annoyed me when she sing’s really high. It wasn’t until she released ‘we belong together’ did I start to like her but only because that song means something to me. Then when she released her other song after that (shake it off) then I realised maybe she is good so I decided to buy her album and I was impressed the whole ... ...it sounds grate when it’s really sunny out side and you put it on. I don’t think theirs even a bad song on there. And what’s so grate about this album is every song is different, you’ve got slow songs, fast songs, and some feel good songs if she brings out another album I’m definitely going to go and buy it.
And now because of this album I’ve taken my word back about what I thought of her and also she is such a nice down to earth person I watched ...

The emancipation of Mimi- 2005
This single surprised MariahCarey fans as it was gripping and instantly I knew I had to buy it.
R&B is its genre and lots of my friends loved this album as it seriously was too good to be true.
With her remarkable voice, she has released her most focused record in over a decade.
Carey opens the album by exhibiting some of the most sincerely soulful vocals of her career on the one-two punch of the up-tempo "It's Like That" and the beautiful ballad "We Belong Together." Her able voice expertly complements both the hazy hip-hop of Snoop Dogg on "Say Somethin'" and the acrobatics of Twista on the dream-like "One and Only." In her early years
Track 1- it's Like That
This song is so good, and it instantly makes you want to dance. It was in its right place as the first track as it starts you off ...
Advantages: Contains some of the best RnB music realised in 2005 Disadvantages: The Platinum Addition is available now with more tracks
Mariah was last heard on Busta Rhymes track "I Know What You Want" way back in 2003. After that I think a lot of people had written MariahCarey off and who was to say otherwise, the girl had been around for a long time, and no one lasts forever..right?
but it seems MariahCarey was not done yet..
On April 12, 2005 MariahCarey returned with her fourteenth album (ninth studio album) release "The Emancipation Of Mimi" It debuted at number one with the highest first-week sales of Carey's career. It has been certified Six times Platinum by the RIAA, and is Carey's best-selling in the U.S. since Daydream (1995). And to top it off won a 2006 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album!
The album has produced seven singles (Not at all surprising as it's filled with great tracks from the very start to the end)
1. "It's Like That ...
Advantages: some good party tracks, Mariah has co-written and co-produced all tracks, lyrics are included Disadvantages: too many ballads (argh!!!)
It's hard to deny the fact that MariahCarey has had a tough time of it in recent years. Once the apparent music darling of the U.S., she then underwent a nervous breakdown as well as an alleged suicide attempt. So, despite the fact I've not been a big fan of her since I was in my early teens, I was glad to see she had made a successful return to the music world with her new album "The Emancipation of Mimi". To be honest, I would probably not even have considered buying the album, however, had it not been for three reasons. The first reason being that I loved "It's Like That", the first single release from the album. The second was that I had heard that this album was decidedly more urban in sound than her previous ones, and featured appearances from some massive names in the industry. Those two had just about got me decided, then I ...
