Advantages: great melodies Disadvantages: some weak songs
...Vanishingpoint is an excellent album from the primal scream boyz, it has a rebellious feel as it is based on the tale of an american outlaw called Kowalski. The album has a variety of other influences, If they move kill em ‘ is based on the Nazi Stuka squadrons, ( a german tank busting plane the junkers ju 87).
Burning Wheel opens up the album with an epic melanchonic feel with some inspirng lyrics and melodies. Star is in a similar vein and is one of the poppiest songs the screm have produced....

Advantages: A great return to form, should win the old fans back and then some Disadvantages: I cant help feeling the coldplay penned track is the weakest on the Album
...It was towards the end of 1997 that I first heard of Embrace. They were a new fresh band from Huddersfield and without even releasing a single had everyone raving about them. For the months that followed they became media darlings, everyone loved them. The first album was superb, it shook up the music industry and suddenly Embrace were the new Oasis. Then a few years later the follow up, Drawn From Memory was released and although no where near as good as its predecessor it was still a decent album.
By this time Danny and the lads didn’t seem to be able to do anything wrong. The McNamara brothers were writing and releasing some great materials. That was until the dreaded third album syndrome took over. A year after Drawn, Embrace released their third album, If You’ve Ever Been. Then almost overnight they went from being a great band...

Summary:
This album is Embrace’s best work to date. Whereas it isn’t as immediate as their other two albums the music and lyrics have come on in spades. Danny’s singing has also got an awful lot better, that said, I liked his old singing also. Whereas some people hated it with a vengeance!
From other reviews I have read of this album, the two I would like to point out are:
NMEs review where they usually love to knock Embrace gave this album a very respectable 8/10.
Q on the other hand gave this album 2 out of 5. The review though was insulting. The reviewer in ‘my opinion’ never even bothered listening to more than one song on the album. For he took the worst lyric from the album and then stated that it was par for the course...
