A very early offering from Jay Kay when he wore a silly hat. This album is seriously chilled – any more laid back and it would probably be horizontal. The best known track is probably Too Young To Die, and this song gives you a feel for the entire album; it’s almost muzak – put it on in a supermarket or department store and people wouldn’t really notice it, it would just be a pleasant addition. Having said that, if you actually listen to the tracks on Emergency On Planet Earth, you’d find some of the most preachy songs about the environment that I’d ever heard – all this from a man who worships his Ferraris. However, if you just listen to the music and not the words, you’ll have a nice time. The album’s didactic in the nicest possible way.
