Album Notes: Longwave: Steve Schiltz (vocals, guitar); Shannon Ferguson (guitar); Dave Marchese (bass guitar); Jeremy Green (drums).
Album Reviews: Uncut (3/03, p.106) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...The album is rich in nimble detail, shifty atmospherics and an aura of calm invincibility....The songs: memorably melodic, plaintive and bigger than skyscrapers..."
Advantages: GREAT INTRODUCTION TO T.S.M. MORE EXPERIMENTAL THAN THEIR LATER RELEASES Disadvantages: MAY ALIENATE THOSE MORE ACCUSTOMED TO MAINSTREAM SOUNDS
...September 000, consisting of only 6 tracks (despite only 5 being listed on this UK version) is a teaser as to the sheer brilliance that these guys can conjour. Brilliance to shine on some of their later releases. Whilst not being afraid to amble along seemingly aimlessly on some tracks, every song on this EP is complete and unique in its own right.
The Secret Machines.(TSM). With influences of Pink Floyd, U2, Longwave and (The) Verve, their own raw and dark sound, ranging from subtle lows to majestic highs, seem almost in prepartory mode for whats to follow, with their later and more urgent sounding 2nd lp.
Track one with its four minute forty five second intro, enough to make Brian Eno blush (of a seven minute forty two second song) sums up TSM quiet and understated confidence in themselves and their sound, easing you into the relaxed...

Advantages: Sophisticated guitar music Disadvantages: Only 42 minutes. Occasionally lacking inspiration.

September 000, consisting of only 6 tracks (despite only 5 being listed on the UK version) is a teaser as to the sheer brilliance that these guys can conjour. Brilliance that would be unleashed to shine on some of their later releases.

And taking into consideration the line up of the band, including members once known to play with The Polyphonic Sprees, Tim De Laughter in his earlier Tripping Daisy days. Days surely spent gazing into the sun, listening to the crazy, hazy and sublime sounds emitting from whatever instruments...
