Album Reviews: Dirty Linen (8-9/99, p.55-6) - \"...For both [its] historical value and [its] entertaining songs, [ENGLISH DRINKING's] worth a good listen....the songs are rollicking fun, if you don't mind the self-consciously coy censorship...\"
Advantages: Loads of music for your money, wide variety Disadvantages: I've not seen all the shows
...Simply the Songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber is a box set of four CDs which contain fifty-five songs from fourteen different musicals. You should expect plenty of variety then.
Lloyd Webber has written a huge number of musicals on a variety of topics. He's written some based on religion (Jesus Christ Superstar), some about historical figures (Evita) and some that are just collections of songs (Cats).
If you like musicals, the chances are you will have seen some by him. If you don't like musicals, you're probably not going to go out and buy these CDs whatever I say about them.
Some Lloyd Webber songs are fairly predictable. They follow a standard pattern of verses, so you can see the rhymes coming a mile off. Others are well-constructed, beautiful pieces of music. Since this box set is a 'best of' with such a large number...

Advantages: Jeff's very early stuff, Some classics before they became finished, A hitoric looks at Jeff's past Disadvantages: Some songs really are demo quality
....
The album opeens with the French song "Hymme 'a LArmour", This was originally recorded by the great French singer, Edith Piaf, a woman Buckley was a huge admirer of (though she died 3 years before he was born). This version isn't a straight cover like some other Buckley covers (most noteably "Satisfied mind"), the song has been made into and 11 min 32 second marathon, which even to me seems excessively long. The song begings with a loose guitar feel, played by Gary Lucas, before Buckley's vocals kick in. Here's another difference between the original and Buckley's, despite starting in French (like the original), he then opts to sing parts of it in English to, which really emonstrates his talent, and perhaps even shows he did listen to his father's music ("Moulin Rouge" from the album "Starsailor" had a french-english lyrical omposition...

Advantages: Listen to Lloyd Banks at his best! Disadvantages: After listening ti the album you him to bring out another one now!
..., Lloyd Banks delivary on this tune is fantastic and if you have listened to Banks before you will apreciate the way he flows. Its a story about him and how he grew up to be a famous rapstar he talks a little about his familly and his general lifestyle and of course there is added heat to the tune as he threatens anyone who wants to mess with him
The 3rd track PLAYBOY 2 is a remix to the tune PLAYBOY in Banks first album "Hunger For More" and although the actuall tune might seem repetative Lloyd Banks contiues his amazing flow and also continues rapping about himself with the cars he drives, the guns he uses, the drinks he drinks, and of course those hoes!
And so comes the 4th track with the hit single THE CAKE features 50 Cent, this is a total classic from Banks as he starts of the rap like so:"I get the Cake n**** The Unit dont play we...
