I am a massive van fan. Infact i live for this guy. Ive been into him since i was 13, im now 24 so thats a good few years. I have every album he has ever officially released and a lot that are not so official, but i have to say that out of them all this album is my overall favourite after Astral weeks.
When you buy an album its probably quite rare that you will like every single song, but with this one, in my opinion, every single song is worth listening to. From begging to end there is a great mixture of up tempo and slow songs to put you in all sorts of moods. There is a great veriaty of instruments such as strings, brass, a harp and even an accordian. There is also some lovely backing vocals from the great Georgie Fame.
I can honestly say that i dont have a favourite song on this album because i just cant choose one. Although i do find myself listenig to a few of them over and over. The first of these would be so quiet in here. this is a great mellow song that just flows all the way through. There is also some classic van whispers at the end fade out.

Another song i find myself putting on repeat is 'Days before rock n roll'. This song has some strange poetic lyrics sort of spoken by a guy called Paul Durcan very well complimented by Vans vocals on the chorus. This song is up beat and but still quite mellow with a lot of name dropping of people such as John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters and loads more as well as all the old radio stations. This song is very much about Vans childhood, spent listenening to the radio and the new songs from over the seas....magic!!

If you are looking for some classic Van the man, a cd packed full of easy listening tunes that will suit almost any mood then this is the one without a doubt.
