...Went to see these two nights ago (for those of you not reading this on the night it was written, I saw them on March 19th). After a 4 hour ride to London with 4 sweaty men, countless rides on the tube, a brisk walk through Soho and a near gun fight outside the London Brixton Academy, I was there. I was so glad that I went. Brilliant atmosphere, brilliant crowd, brilliant day. Any way, onto the review.
I got this album because I was oing to see the aforementioned concert, just incase that they were going to do this instead of a medley. I am so glad I splashed out on this fantastic album.

Advantages: Some good tracks, smooth easy listening. Disadvantages: Slightly one dimensional. A few weak links.
...A couple of years back, i bought David Gray's 'White Ladder', despite a couple of disappointing tracks, i then bought 'A new day at midnight' upon its release.
On the whole, its is a good album, not exceptional, but good and a wlecome change from all the pop, r 'n' b and rap. Gray has a silky smooth voice, and is backed by some excellent musical structure.
However, in all honesty, i was slightly disappointed with this album. There are a couple of outstanding songs on it, but the rest of the tracks are mediocre.
The album both opens and ends with beatifully structured songs, 'Dead in the water' and 'The other side'. The other tracks that impressed me were 'Caroline', 'Kangaroo' and 'Be Mine'. The writing is original and sung beatifully, but some tracks lack invention, and are too similar to previous songs by Gray.
Definitely one...

The subtitle “The Year 1905” refers to the abortive Russian uprising when a huge number of people, gathered outside the Tsar’s palace in silent protest against the living conditions they were enduring, were massacred by the Tsar’s troops. It is a work on a massive scale, in four movements to be played without a break – in other words, an unbroken hour of music. If this sounds daunting, relax. The symphony has been described as “cinematic,” a crime as far as the critics are concerned. It is like an enormous screen on which events are graphically portrayed, a story, a lesson and a warning...
