Advantages: Heavier, Darker, Emotive, Good place to start listening to Kamelot Disadvantages: None, bar the second part of a story, a bit confusing for new listeners
...Kamelots return to form with the second part of the Faust inspired concept with the masterpiece, The Black Halo. The album could be considered darker, and more emotive than Epica, and the music certainly reflects this.
The album contains a mixture of slower, balladic songs, medium tempo Horn Thrusters and allegro-fast head bangers. Allied with the breath taking vocals of Roy Kahn, there is alot of chance for keyboardist Oliver Patoli and guitarist Thomas Youngblood to show off.
Songs to Bang your Noggin' to:
March of Mephisto (When things start getting 'Fists in the Air')
When the Lights are Down (Double Kick drums and 16th note guitar riffs)
Soul Society (in the same veign as When the Lights are Down, starts softer)
The Black Halo (Syncopated Rhythms and hard hitting power chords)

Advantages: New, Fresh, Realistic Disadvantages: Doesnt sound like Traditional Kamelot
...Kamelot return to our ears with 'Ghost Opera'. This album is mixed, and seems more mainstream than previous Kamelot. True to form it opens with an instrumental, yet less Epic. This seems to be the case for the entire album. There is less in terms of sterotypical 'Power' metal aspects, such as the keyboards. In place of normal keyboard sounds, real instruments take center stage. Its taken me a good few listens to, to come to terms with what the new Kamelot album. On the whole i dont dislike the album, im indifferent. Its not Kamelot as we have grown to know it, there is less in terms of winding soundscapes, neck breaking headbanging sections, less soloing, and more realism in comparison to the Medieval induced Kamelot of old. Not my favourite Kamelot album.
