Advantages: Different, intriguing, virtually pan pipe free Disadvantages: Maudlin and sombre
. A bit faster than the previous tracks and you can see the change in Susana's voice. She's less whispery and maudlin and her voice shimmers with confidence and sheer joy as her backing singers join in singing the title track. Her accent and pronunciation remain both alien and captivating to me. A joy and one for my i-Pod (if I owned one).

Shit! Duck! It's a pan pipe intro. Luckily they disappear as quickly as they arrive becausethe track is largely acapella with a little bit of bass to add volume. Her voice goes back to being mournful but she hits some low notes quite impressively on this song. Near the end, some percussion rattles in and Baca goes from deep voiced chanteuse to some quite thrilling falsetto notes as she sings the title.

Advantages: Simple easy to clean system, seperate water resevoir Disadvantages: None
with this Behemoth Computer (screen at least) I don't have much room for a big monster of a coffee machine.
So I went for the Krups Vivo..
When I used to live with my folks in Costa Rica, we had a machine which was of much inferior quality and among one of the annoying things was the fact that you had to unscrew the boiler top to add more water, which meant that if you wanted to cater for more people it took an eternity to wait for the pressure and temperature to decrease enough to refill each time.
The Vivo gets over this really easily by having a removable water resevoir at the back, connected by a valve. You just open the lid, take it by the handle, pull it out and fill it at the sink. Alternatively, if you are in the process of making coffee or steam, and you notice the water level is dropping (it is transparent) you can open the top ...
Advantages: Just a bloody great site - quick, easy, excellent design Disadvantages: Would have liked a little more information on some items

Outstanding!
Aiming for a late 60s feel (Blofeld eat your heart out), the site has midnight blue backgrounds with crisp orange and white graphics giving a retro-sophistication. Most graphics are animated (uses Macromedia Flash/Active-X) and menus and links are ...

Album Notes
Personnel includes: Susana Baca (vocals); David Pinto (arranger, bass, background vocals); Marc Ribot (acoustic & electric guitars, loops); Sergio Valdes (acoustic guitar, background vocals); John Medeski (melodica, piano, organ); Juan Medrano Cotito (cajon, background vocals); Hugo Bravo (percussion, background vocals). Recorded at Globe Studios, New York, New York. Includes liner notes by Susana Baca. Peruvian singer Susana Baca has done much to raise the profile of Afro-Peruvian music. True to form, ESPIRITU VIVO brings to life the rich culture of black Peru with such bubbly songs as "Caracunde" and the reflective "Si Me Quitaran." Using a combination of native hand percussion and common instruments (guitars and organ), this album features a mixture of exotic flavors and readily identifiable sounds. ESPIRITU VIVO (and Afro-Peruvian music in general) is easily accessible because of its inherent tunefulness. Moreover, most of us are familiar with this genre's cousins. For example, the minor keyed "Toro Mata" suggests both the sleek Brazilian bossa nova and the fiery Cuban salsa. Yet, Baca's music is far from derivative. The exquisite refrains of "Afro Blue / Zum Zum" and "The Anchor Song" reveal unique instrumental harmonies, and in the case of the former, inventive rhythmical motifs. Further, Baca's own voice couldn't be more arresting. Her tone is silky-smooth and her delivery is both crafty and heartfelt.
