Advantages: a blend of new and old Disadvantages: slightly too much electronic influence for my taste
...'Original Prankster' is the first single to be taken from the Offspring's forthcoming new album - Conspiracy of One - and is therefore long awaited.
Americana was a highly acclaimed album by many, yet equally criticised by masses of original Offspring fans. 'Original Prankster' is, unfortunately for some, sticking to the new found, more produced sound, with riffs reminiscent of 'Pretty Fly...', yet can equally remind those with a small amount of Offspring knowledge of 'Come out and Play', so there is something there for fans old and new.
Dexter's vocals are unusually harmonious with the inevitable presence of Noodles' guitars, and with Greg and Ron providing the essential backbone to the whole piece.
'Original Prankster' should keep all fans of the Offspring happy, and if it doesn't then perhaps they should turn to S-Club 7...

...I greatly enjoyed Marillion's "Anoraknophobia" disc and let me say that the production standard really does warrant hearing on good quality equipment as the soundstage presented is detailed and multi-layered. The bass also demands hearing on a system with good speakers!
This is a disc that will easily justify prolonged listening, it has much to offer and gives fresh insights to the listener each time it is heard.
"Map Of The World" in particular stood out in my view, very different from earlier Marillion pieces yet clearly targeted at the same audience. Poetic and lyrical, it feeds the listeners imagination and also soothes the soul. Hogarth is wonderful; he shows a rare vocal dexterity and range. It has me reaching for the replay button every time I play the disc.
Certainly "Between You And Me" was the best track to begin...

...Gordon Duncan (Highland bagpipe, chanter, whistles) with Neil Fergusson (bouzouki), Tony McManus (guitar), Ewan Vernal (bass) and John Scullion (snare drum). Produced by Tony McManus.
Well what can i say, if you haven't heard this late great legend play then i do recommend buying this cd. I can honestly say that he was one of the best bagpipers in the world, and it was a huge shock when he passed away. His playing in this cd is phenomenal, from the traditional march, straspheys and reels, to his own unique compositions, one of which is the title name of this album.
Track listing
2/4 Marches - The marches are Glengarry Highland Gathering, Bonnie Ann, and Renfrewshire Militia. Gordon plays these 2/4's with great fingering technique.
