I think that as pop music goes, Michael Jackson is simply the best there is. You only have to listen to this and realise that practically EVERY on it is a classic. Some of these songs are 20, 30 years old but they still sound fresh and arent dated at all. Michael Jackson appeals to everyone, rock fans, rap fans, and young people who weren't even born at the height of his fame.
One of the best things about this is that it includes the best known jackson 5 songs and his earliest hits. 'Rockin robin' 'Blame it on the boogie' and 'Can you feel it' all stand out as amazing, catchy pop songs and 'Ben' is simply gorgeous, even if it is about a rat. I'm sorry, but 'He rocks in the treetops all day long' has got to be my favourite lyric of all time.
But the real substance of course comes from all of those unforgettable hits The first CD goes through his career up to 'Thriller' and features the best song of the two CDs 'Dont stop til you get enough' the ultimate song to dance to, although I dont have a clue what hes singing. 'I just can't stop loving you' is a great ballad that even my nan loves and how can ANYONE ever forget 'Billie Jean'. This first CD shows Michael when he was at his best.
The second CD is almost a let down after the unbelievable quality of the first, although its still better than the majority of artists out there. The biggest change is the shift away from pure pop into, ironically, more urban sounds like 'Remember the time' 'In the closet' and songs about the problems in the world seem to be a theme. Unfortunately this gives it a more cheesy sound that could have been improved if they'd been teamed with a killer hook like 'Can you feel it', but instead we get soppy ballads like 'Man in the mirror''Heal the world' and 'Earth song'. Michael's most ridiculed song. We used to sing it at school 'Pin song'...he steps on the pin 'aaaaaahahhhahahah' and then the pain gets really bad 'oooohohohooohhhoooh'. These songs are more experimental, but 'The way you make me feel' has got to be the highlight here, cos its just so fun.
This is simply brilliant, a great record with all amazing tracks.

Blame it on the Boogie! Review ofEssential Michael Jackson, The - Michael Jacksonby

Advantages: Well known ballads and upbeat songs, some true classics Disadvantages: Some lesser known songs, most of us already have the majority of tracks
It's hard to know where to start with a review of a Michael Jackson album, especially another 'best of', as most of us probably have the majority of these tracks on other albums. That said, they do have a certain appeal and a way of sounding fresh and exciting, even when some are around 30 years old. It's also hard to say what the future holds for Jackson in light of recent events. I am sure his fan base will stay true to their hero, but those of ... ...on. I'm sure this album was released to remind us just what a musical talent Michael Jackson really is, and it certainly does that!
There are 38 tracks altogether over the 2 cds and range from the Jackson hits such as 'ABC' right up to his more recent solo offerings of 'Heal the world' and 'Black or white'.
I have to say that some of these tracks really please me personally (ballads such as 'Got to be there' and 'She's out of my life' and upbeat ...

Advantages: All his songs are amazing so there is no way hating this cd Disadvantages: Some of my favourites are not in there but those are my minuses maybe not for you though
...not put in his other essential songs like 'one more chance' the song that I enjoy listening to, little disspointing but there is only 2 cd's to fill in. I don't know if I'm ever going to get tired of listening to MJ songs, doubt that i will but this cd will bring enjoyment and memories. It is worth buying this cd for sure as there will be people out there who has all their favourite MJ songs in this cd but not all of my favourites are there! So definitley ...

Advantages: Great songs Disadvantages: There are better greatest hits collections from michael jackson
...but don't buy if you are not. there are other greatest hits collection from michaeljackson that have been released more recently (such as number ones and the essentialmichaeljackson) which are more upto date and contain his more recent songs.
If you really want to buy it, I would recommend you buy "HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I " instead because it not only includes this CD but also another one with songs from the HIStory era of michaeljackson.
Although i would recommend you buy other of his greatest hits collections, i will give a high rating to this because there's nothing wrong with the actual music; Billie Jean is obviously one of the greatest songs of all time, Man in the mirror is an incredible song about 'making that change', thriller is a classic, Beat it is one for pop, rock and RnB fans, the girl is mine...

Additional notes
Album Notes: The title might sound like hyperbole, but this two-disc collection is, in fact, a pretty fair summation of Michael Jackson's career up to 2005. Of course, it's impossible for two discs to hold every hit single Michael Jackson has ever had, but THE ESSENTIAL MICHAEL JACKSON starts with the Jackson Five's debut single, "I Want You Back," and ends 38 tracks later with the 2001 comeback attempt "You Rock My World." In between is a chronological overview of some of the most significant pop music in the last three decades of the 20th century, climaxing with about two-thirds of THRILLER and half of OFF THE WALL, the album that in retrospect sounds even fresher and more exciting than its blockbuster follow-up. Disc Two starts in 1987 with eight tracks from the underrated BAD, and its second half does the listener the handy service of compressing the second act of Michael Jackson's life story (a time when the tabloid headlines were overshadowing his increasingly formulaic music) into nine entirely respectable, if not earth-shattering, singles.
