I think that as pop music goes, Michael Jackson is simply the best there is. You only have to listen to this and realise that practically EVERY on it is a classic. Some of these songs are 20, 30 years old but they still sound fresh and arent dated at all. Michael Jackson appeals to everyone, rock fans, rap fans, and young people who weren't even born at the height of his fame.
One of the best things about this is that it includes the best known jackson 5 songs and his earliest hits. 'Rockin robin' 'Blame it on the boogie' and 'Can you feel it' all stand out as amazing, catchy pop songs and 'Ben' is simply gorgeous, even if it is about a rat. I'm sorry, but 'He rocks in the treetops all day long' has got to be my favourite lyric of all time.
But the real substance of course comes from all of those unforgettable hits The first CD goes through his career up to 'Thriller' and features the best song of the two CDs 'Dont stop til you get enough' the ultimate song to dance to, although I dont have a clue what hes singing. 'I just can't stop loving you' is a great ballad that even my nan loves and how can ANYONE ever forget 'Billie Jean'. This first CD shows Michael when he was at his best.
The second CD is almost a let down after the unbelievable quality of the first, although its still better than the majority of artists out there. The biggest change is the shift away from pure pop into, ironically, more urban sounds like 'Remember the time' 'In the closet' and songs about the problems in the world seem to be a theme. Unfortunately this gives it a more cheesy sound that could have been improved if they'd been teamed with a killer hook like 'Can you feel it', but instead we get soppy ballads like 'Man in the mirror''Heal the world' and 'Earth song'. Michael's most ridiculed song. We used to sing it at school 'Pin song'...he steps on the pin 'aaaaaahahhhahahah' and then the pain gets really bad 'oooohohohooohhhoooh'. These songs are more experimental, but 'The way you make me feel' has got to be the highlight here, cos its just so fun.
This is simply brilliant, a great record with all amazing tracks.

Yup...I like some of his tunes too. Off the wall, Billy Jean, Wanna be startin something and Rock with you are just some of my faves.
However, some of his songs I find a little childish like Rockin Robin, ABC and Ben. Nice review. ;-)
