Advantages: Beautiful songs, lot of variety Disadvantages: A couple of songs don't meet the standard of the rest
...As a longtime fan of Nanci I rushed out and bought this CD on the day of release. Although I was a bit unsure of it at first, it's now one of my favourites.
The mood is varied from the opening title track, a sad lyric about life drifting by through to the closing cover of a "In the wee small hours" a song made famous by Frank Sinatra. Between these two there are songs about the Vietnam war, photographer Dickie Chapelle, Nanci's mother and my personal favourie, "Shaking Out the Snow". This slightly bizarre number sees Nanci employing an unusual vocal technique as she sings about her frozen heart. No-one listening to the rest of the album will really believe she's the cold character she portrays but it's still a great song.
All in all, Nanci Griffith fans will have this CD already - if you haven't had the pleasure of hearing her...

Advantages: Christmas nostalgia Disadvantages: Too much Sinatra
...on the other. The amassed songs, spanning a period of two decades, have been arranged in chronological order beginning with a 1963 rendition of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” (written by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane) and ending with a 1975 Don Coasta arrangement of “Christmas Memories”.
Some of the highlights from the album are the two tracks Sinatra recorded with Bing Crosby, “Go Tell It on the Mountain” and “We wish you the Merriest”, both exemplifying perfect Christmas swing. The two crooners are evidently at ease with each other and compliment each other wonderfully.
Another track to note is “The Twelve Days of Christmas”, Sinatra sings with his three children Tina, Nancy and Frank Sinatra Jr (I wonder just how embarrassed they are by the recording now).
Also included on the album are “The Christmas Waltz,” written for Sinatra...

Advantages: includes video and two great B-sides Disadvantages: none!
...Bag It Up: the ctachiest thing Geri Halliwell has released; a disco stormer; can you resist it? It's a fabulous tune, very similar to Boogie Nights from the 70's. Gri sounds sexy in the spoken verses, and lets everything go for the chorus. This CD features two brilliant B-sides, even though they are cover versions. The first is NancySinatra's 'These Boots Are Made For Walking', which Geri performs flawlessly. Then there is Doris Day's 'Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps' - another great choice for Geri. The video is also on here and what a video it is! It is so cheesy...and so fantastic!...
