Advantages: lots of varity, just been rereleased you lucky people
Disadvantages: was a one album project so thats all folks...

...melody instead. Album closer "There's always someone More ******up than you" is pleasant enough but is somewhat let down by the 4 minute odd spankathon that follows. Infectious as this album is the samples in-between the tracks do become irritating I can't really tell you anything about the packaging as I rescued it from its nearly fate in the Melody Maker rubbish bin and it only has a white cover with a typed track listing. I can tell you that it was released by Infernal Records in May 1999, has 11 tracks and runS for about 40 minutes. Despite being touted as the heaviest acoustic album ever, which it could well be, it is terribly laid back and more over fun. Despite its hotchpotch of Dance, hip-hop, trance, rock, opera, it is essentially a pop album. And if you're not a fan of pop, my commiserations. Final Analysis - Hate Marmite... Read review

The Sun Is Come!
Review of Cavalry Of Light EP - Lavender Diamond by  Seresecros

Advantages: Pretty prettiness, sweet and innocent sounding music, flying unicorns
Disadvantages: No guitar rock, no rapping, if you don't like fairies this won't appeal

...a simple yet poignant pop riff, and Becky returns to the mike to show off her longest notes yet. Her voice gets more and more strained as she sings along, her voice getting higher and higher until she’s essentially performing the role of opera singer for the band. It’s a lovely song, powerful because of the beat, which keeps it marching on defiantly; it’s a song of empowerment, about taking a broken relationship and standing up for yourself. Stark has been hurt by the guy, and she wants everyone to know what an ass he is. And now everyone on Ciao knows this too - guy who hurt Becky Stark? He’s an ass. Pass it on! Throughout the EP, Stark’s voice is what powers the band, with her credibly innocent sounding voice rising and struggling at times to keep the pure notes that she has to repeatedly hit on the songs. Review of Killers [Remastered] [ECD] - Iron Maiden by  tonguelessghostofsin

Advantages: Essential listening for true Maidenites
Disadvantages: Again, poor production, slightly weaker than debut

...for their roots. 1. 'The Ides of March' Strangely, this album opens with an instrumental, and a short one at that! Technically great, with rolling drums, and efficient shredding, but it sounds strangely like Queen! 2. 'Wrathchild' An early classic, this is a belter, with Di'Anno's vocals passionate and fitting the song perfectly. It is about a boy who grows up with one aim in life; to track down his estranged father. Lyric example; "Now i spend my time looking all around, for a man who's nowhere to be found" 3. 'Murders in the Rue Morgue' Like 'Phantom of the Opera' this stands the test of time as one of Maiden's very finest. This, essentially, is a lightning fast punk anthem, but with the technical prowess of Metal musicians. A WASTED OPPORTUNITY

Disadvantages: Everything about this pathetic attempt at an opera

...Andre Previn and his librettist, Philip Littell have performed a remarkable feat: they have taken what could have and should have been a tremendous opera, and managed to do everything wrong that could possibly be done wrong. Here is one of the greatest - if not the greatest - play ever written, which in its power and intensity is basically an opera already. Now - music presumably enhances the drama in an opera, intensifying the dramatic highlights, so if anything this should have had twice the power. Instead, Previn and Litell have concocted an "opera" entirely devoid of either dramatic or musical impact. Start with the libretto. The "librettist" has for all practical purposes merely taken ninety percent of the play script verbatim, and called it a libretto. Previn might just as well have written the music straight from William... Read review

The Biggest Little Box of Opera There Is

Disadvantages: Book may have too many pages for it's size (see it, you'll know what I mean) but dont let that put you off

...I've never been much of a fan of opera. Like most classical music it often suffers from giving the impression of being overlong, bombastic, pretentious and something that only "posh" people listen to. The cost of tickets to most performances especially Covent Garden only serves to exacerbate this. The only operas that I can sit all the way through are "Carmen" and "Madame Butterfly". However that should not put you off listening to the extremely wide range of music music extracted from their "complete opera" settings. This package is a superb introduction to opera from the excellent Naxos (www.naxos.com) organisation and is available at an extremely reasonable price (RRP 9.99 GBP). It consists of a 762 page book and a double CD with two and a half hours (38 pieces) of opera extracts selected from the Naxos catalogue. ~ The Book... Read review

Sex, Jokes, and Don Giovanni!

Background to the Opera: Don Giovanni was one of Mozarts greatest opears, and as a result is one of the most popularfor all those who have a taste for the delights opera provides. Don Giovanni is all about an Italian Nobleman, Don Giovanni, who is a great womaniser. Consequently, Don Giovanni, has been remarked as a "light-hearted sexual promiscuity". Life for Don Giovanni is fine (a minimum of 6 girls a night!), however, after he rapes Donna Anna, and murders her father (the Commendatore) , after he challenges him to a duel once he discovers Don Giovanni at his game!
