This compilation album celebrates the 20 plus years of the god of heavy metal keeping me sane in an insane world.
Disc 1
We start with opening of ‘Crazy Train’ which just so totally rocks. (I still get goosebumps when I hear this, especially when you see Ozzy live). Then Mr Crowley, I Don’t Know – Live (this is usually Double O’s set opener and this was recorded when Ozzy was first starting out his solo career with guitarist Randy Rhodes (who tragically died in a plane accident). Jake E Lee was his replacement, but after Randy’s death Ozzy was not the same). Bark at the Moon is just brilliant another Ozzy classic.
I then noticed something odd, on this Best of album….. There were no songs from the ‘Ultimate Sin’ album….why???
Wot no ‘Shot in the Dark’ or ‘Ultimate Sin’??
Only the record label executives will know why they’ve left these 2 off. These songs rock.
There’s a few more songs and then we get to ‘Miracle Man’ (a tribute to American Evengalist Bible-basher Jimmy Swaggart who should have ‘Practiced what he Preached’ but instead got caught with a Prostitute with his pants down!). This song is taken from the album ‘No Rest for the Wicked’ which was recorded in 1988/1989 with new guitarist Zakk Wylde. Ozzy was looking for a guitarist after Jake E Lee left the band. (It’s said that when Ozzy heard Zakk play on a demo tape he liked what he heard from the guitarist. Then a friend said to check this guy out and gave him a photo which turned out to be Zakk).
NOTE
There are 8 songs on the 1st disc that are still played on Ozzy’s live set list. Which to me show the quality and strength of the songs which are 20+ years old.
Disc 2.
Now we’re breaking into the 90’s material
The the brilliant ‘Mama I’m Coming Home’ (a song dedicated to Sharon to say Ozzy’s coming home after being on tour awwwww). Just goes to show that Ozzy can do ballads.
‘No More Tears’ has to most awsome bass riff I’ve ever heard, I just love hearing it.
Then one of my favourite Ozzy songs. Perry Mason, is just so heavy. I love blasting this one out (just to scare the neighbours……only kidding).
Gets Me Through is like a mish-mash of what’s happened to Ozzy over the years # I’m not the kind of person you think I am. I’m not the anti-christ or the Iron Man # and his tribute to Ozzy fans all around the world.
This is a good compilation album for the Ozzy fans. Or just for people who like some of his songs.
I recommend it.
