Advantages: Loads of Phil Collins songs Disadvantages: Loads of Phil Collins songs messed up
An album of remixed Phil Collins tracks performed by r&b and hip hop artists. Risky, seeing as the man himself as churned out classic after classic and as you can imagine it wasnt well received by, well anyone.
I did however purchase because i like Phil Collins and i like hip hop & r&b so i took a chance. I should have spent my money on buying that indoor ten pin bowling set instead. Saying that there is a couple of decent tunes on here but as a whole, not the greatest ive spent my money on
Tracks
Another Day In Paradise - Ray J & Brandy. The single to come off this album was received quite well, not a bad video and the brother sister duet that everyone wanted to hear. An up to date version but not better than the original. You may find me saying that more often than not
Sussudio - Ol Dirty Bastard. Shocking. No resemblence ...
Advantages: The best under one roof (so to speak) Disadvantages: None
in regards to this cd is that old and new songs work together perfectly... there's that essential flow (no pun intended). How can that be... I mean, really, James Brown on the same cd as Razorlight... and what about Louis Armstrong in comparison with... say... Sting? Why does it work? I'l tell you why... it's the amazing talent of all the artists, that jazzy bluesy quality, the clever and often thoughtful lyrics... and then there's the music itself... upbeat (does anyone use that word anymore, I wonder), a lyrical blend of soulful and top pop... sounds crazy, like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches... the two don't seem feasible, but trust me, the two are a match made in heaven!
Let's face it, we all have our favourite artists, a few of those manage to create great music on a consistent basis, others coming up with a hit followed by ...
Advantages: Good selection Disadvantages: As with all compilations there are some filler tracks
from then. "Walk Away" by Cast and "Day We Caught The Train" by Ocean Colour Scene capture that time brilliantly.
Low points for me are Nelly Furtado with "Say It Right". I just cannot bear this woman. Her voice and crooked smile drive me mad!! Moving onto Richard Fleeshman. Why is his song classed as an essential listen? "Coming Down" is dire. Just because he won a TV show when he was pitched against even more mediocre soap stars does not make him good listening.
"Erase/Rewind" by The Cardigans, "Northern Sky" by Nick Drake and "When Will I See Your Face Again" by Jamie Scott are not terrible tracks but they just didn't have a place on here and are instantly forgettable.
So, to sum it up, my perception of the title was wrong, The majority of these songs are not recent chart hits but are essential music for 2008, and I hope they ...
