is often dense, mysterious, blurry and all-encompassing. Ether Teeth is also a suitably playful title for an album that is whimsical to say the least, and which uses everything from turntables, piano, guitar and chopsticks to chewing gum and bass guitar to create a marvellous "musique-concrete" style tapestry of sound--all recorded onto two-inch tape and enhanced with a cornucopia of effects. The miscellaneous nature of the album makes it defiantly sprawling; by turns elegant, haunting, kooky and downright funny. In fact, although built from a veritable labyrinth of acoustic strums, surrealist textures, rock tracks, fuzzy turntablism and unexpected bursts of birdsong, it's the album's humorous and irreverent edge that prevents it from sliding too far into abstract murkiness. Overall, it's buoyant enough to keep up listeners' interests throughout and entertaining and diverse enough to be a veritable Ninja classic. --Paul Sullivan

Jan Pienkowski was born in Warsaw in 1936 and eventually came to England just after WW2.
Jan has illustrated for a number of authors and was a pioneer of the modern pop-up books for children.
He has collaborated with Helen Nicoll on all of the Meg and Mog books and has his own website at www.janpienkowski.com
In true Meg and Mog fashion, Jan uses very rich, vibrant colours as backgrounds which really appeal to children. There are more white backgrounds in this book than others in the same series due to the 'setting' of the story, let's face it what other colour could you choose to depict snow?!
Another appealing aspect ...
Advantages: Entertaining concept, so bad it's good Disadvantages: It wasn't meant to be funny!
Teeth was a film that I had never been too bothered to see, as I thought it would just be a terrible, cheesy horror film, that was neither scary nor entertaining in any way. That was, of course, until one of my best friends told me that she had seen it, and thought that it was one of the funniest films that she had ever seen, and that this film was a perfect example of a film that is so bad, it's hilarious. So, when she rented the DVD for us and our flatmates to watch last night, I sat down to watch it expecting a hilarious attempt at a scary movie. I was not disappointed.
The basic storyline of Teeth is that, for some reason, a 'normal' abstinent teenager from the United States was born with teeth embedded into her vagina. Yes, really. Dawn O'Keefe is a fairly average high school student, other than the fact that she preaches ...

Album Reviews
Mojo (5/03, p.98) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Broder essays a brief, laconic vocal, but it's his peerless collaging of musical offcuts - much of it turntable-sourced - that consistently beguiles..." Uncut (6/03, p.104) - 3 stars out of 5 - "As Fog, Andrew Broder constructs fragile soundscapes using everything from his beloved turntables to bird whistles and music box tunes..." Magnet (6-7/03, p.94) - "...There's a symphonic sensibility behind ETHER TEETH...that draws the studious listener closer with each successive spin. This marks Broder as a modern-day composer..." The Wire (5/03, p.60) - "...For all the homemade, quirky charm on show here - and the album has plenty of wide open, lyrical moments - ETHER TEETH leaves behind a lingering, moody, melancholy aftertaste..."m
