---------------------------------------------------------- Omni Trio - Even Angels Cast Shadows ----------------------------------------------------------
It was around May this year when I found this album on iTunes. I had just been going through different phases of music genres, Rock, Hip-Hop,Pop,R&B, but I didn't take to them too much. I prefer more relaxing music, not classical but just more of a Drum and Bass type genre to give me that tingle up my spine like some music does...
I began to get into Drum and Bass more as the music is just so much different to the other genres. There are hardly any lyrics and just some sweet sounds to listen to. I really took to Drum and Bass and that is when I started to look for Drum and Bass albums and songs from iTunes and stores...
I couldn't find any in nearby shops or even when I was on holiday, but I found some online, the Omni Trio albums. So knowing me I was downloading and buying the albums straight away from Amazon and iTunes, and from all of the four Omni Trio albums I purchased, this album was by far one of the best....
------------------------------ Who Are Omni Trio? ------------------------------
Well I must admit, the first time I noticed any of Omni Trio's albums and their songs, I was guessing it was three people who make up Omni Trio, but it is actualy just one man.
The musician who makes up Omni Trio is Rob Haigh...
Rob Haigh is British and he is actualy nicknamed " Omni Trio " in the music world. Rob Haigh began to start releasing albums in the early 80's where ha had albums called Notes From The Underground, and Three Seasons Only, but he did not release the albums as part of being Omni Trio, but in the nineties he did start Omni Trio, which came under the genre of Drum and Bass music. Rob Haigh ( Omni Trio ) was actualy one of the first Drum and Bass musicians of all time...
In his career, Rob Haigh has released six successful albums from Omni Trio, but the album " Even Angels Cast Shadows " which is what this reveiw is about, is a more Jungle type based genre of music which Omni Trio were also quite well known for....
------------------------------------------------------------ Ev en Angels Cast Shadows - Track Listings ------------------------------------------------------------
T here are plenty of tracks to keep you going on this very unique styled album from Omni Trio, where there are ten great tracks to sit back and relax to...
You may be thinking how odd the track name is, and i totally agree with you as Etiquette actualy means Social Groups and Social Behavior and Such Like. The Breakbeat name is self explanitory, as breakbeat is part of the Drum and Bass kit, only this song is more under the Jungle genre...
This song has no lyrics all exept one that sounds like the world " Feeling ". It is very difficult to understand and that's why i'm not too sure about the lyrics but there is only one, where the rest of the song is synthesized with all different sounds. This is a more lively opener of a song from Omni Trio and it doesn't relax me as much as the following tracks do, but I feel that this song puts many different pictures into your head...
I mean, when I first heard this track
I just imagined the image of a big city inside my head as this song was remixed by London Steppers, so London being a big city attaches to the fact that I imagine a big city with lot's of action and a busy atmosphere occuring. A very strange thought but i'm sure i'm not the only one who thinks that this style of music sort of guides you through many different images...
Overall I would have to award this song with a 5/10. I didn't really take to this song so much as some of the others, and I honestly found this track quite boring even though there were some good synthesizer beats in it...
I wouldn't recomend this song too much... 7.25 Minutes...
When I first heard this song, I didn't take to it too much. I thought it sounded quite like the previous song on the album, but as I listened to it more often on the album, I got more and more used to it...
This song is a very fast paced track on the album which made me get more used to it as it just relaxed me. This track really has a lot of different sound effects in it which I thought was quite interesting to hear all of the different effecs packed into one spine tingling tune...
Unfortunatly this song doesn't really remind me of anything which is ashame because I love to picture images in my head from Drum and Bass songs, it's like the music is an adventure which I find with every Omni Trio song and on this album...
Overall, this song will reveice a 6/10. I feel that there are some brilliant sound effects used in this song which are so well put together. This song also relaxes me quite a bit and that is what get's the fairly high rating. The only problem with this track is the fact that I feel it has less enthusiasm than some of the rest of the songs do, but apart from that it's not a bad track at all!!!...
I wouldn't recomend these first two tracks as they are a little boring, but the next tracks won't dissapoint you.... 6.00 Minutes..
Wow, I was absolutly amazed when I first heard this track. Even the start of the song gave me a strange tingling up my spine which is what you get from Drum and Bass music, which is why I like it so much, the best kind to relax to..
This song starts of slowsly with just a synthesized effect but then soon after, the more bass type sound comes into play and sets you back even more. Later on in the song, in comes the really lovely sounding music. It's so hard to explain, but a sort of more major sounding paino comes into play with some great beats. The effects in this song are amazing and they really work well to get you into a good mood, this track really sets me into an adventurous music world..
See what Jungle and Drum and Bass music does to you!!!...
Overall, this song will be awarded a 9/10. This song is my most favourite on the album due to it's peaceful sounds and the atmosphere it creates. They sadly don't make trakcs like this anymore which is a massive shame, in my eyes anyway...
I definitly recomend this song for you to listen to over and over again without you getting bored of it, one of the best... 7.12 minutes....
---------------------------------- Track 4 - First Contact ----------------------------------
It wasn't the first time I had heard this song when I got this album. I have heard this track on Grand Theft Auto: Three's MSX Fm radio. When I first heard it I thought it was a really bad son, but as my game playing kept on going and the song progressed, I really got into the feeling of First Contact...
It's the sound effects used in this song that makes it so iteresting to listen to. There are so many sound effects that really work well together, and makes me think of a place where someone died. A very strange image but some of the effects in the song create a spooky but not so scary atmosphere which is just really puzzling...
I love this song, it is like a journey with all of the different images you can get from listening to it. This song feels like it puts you into a trance if you just lyeback and relax, it's juse so peaceful and undescribable...
Overall, this song will be awarded a 9/10. I really enjoyed listening to this song and lying back relaxing to the sounds it gives us, the feeling is just so amazing and the effects in this track are brilliant...
This song is another you MUST listen to on the album... A really nice long one, 6.55 minutes!!!...
-------------------------------------------------- Track 5 - A Little Rain Must Fall --------------------------------------------------
Oh this track creates quite a spooky atmosphere. There are moans in the background, the organ playing in parts of the song, and with a spooky sounding tune throughout it really creats something for you to be scared about...
Even though this song is so much different, you can really picture what's going on in the background. The effects are brilliant with all of the different things you hear, and the name of the song is absolutly perfect, plus the end of the song lets out a splash of rain which obviously suits the name once again...
Overall, this song gets awarded a 7/10. This track doesn't have the relaxing quality that most of the rest of the songs do on this album, but it does have amazing sound effects and gives you really scary images which I never thought was possible with just music, but yet again Omni Trio bring more enthusiasm back to the Drum and Bass styled music once again...
If you are prepared, then I would recomend you try out this song, who knows you might take to the atmosphere it creates somehow?.... But beware, don't listen to this song in the dark.... A very short track 2.27 minutes...
--------------------------- Track 6 - Nu Birth ---------------------------
This song is a really fast paced track. Itis the same main tune throughout, but there are added sound effects to it. Again this song first sounded really relaxing, but then in came more scary sound effects, but I still find it quite peaceful...
There are actualy lyrics featured in this song which are just " My Love " which don't really fit in anywhere, but I still really enjoy listening to this song from the album...
I found that there was just something in this song that I really took to. I can't quite figure out why I really like this song as I feel there are better tracks from Omni Trio, but theres something I like about it. Maybe it's the fact that I can picture many images around the song which makes the atmosphere even more interesting and peaceful....
Overall, I will award this track with a 8/10. The effects are exellent in this song, the tune itself is very fast paced and really goes well with the synthesized effects, the whole song is just an atmosphere of a busy image, just so many effects cramped into one track, but it isnt a bad thing. Again this track is one of those back tingling sensational songs, another great impression of Omni Trio...
This song runs on for 6.41 minutes so quite a long one... I would highly recomend that you listen to this song and try to recognise what that special something it has about it...
-------------------------------- Track 7 - Artificial Life --------------------------------
The first time heard this track,I knew i liked it. It is another one of those fast paced tracks that you can enjoy listening to over and over again...
The start of the song is plain, with just one tune to the song, but as the song progresses more and more effects are added to the background of the tune...
This song actualy gives me an image of what life will be like in a few years, and i assure you it's only Omni Trio who has ever gave me a real image like this before so another brilliant track fro my favourite artist....
Overall, this song will be awarded 7/10. I love how fast the song is and how good the clarity of all of the effects added to the track are. I really like this track and that is why it is getting quite a high rating. Another spine tingling track...
I would definitly recomend you listen to this track and see what you can picture in your mind...
So peaceful, and luckily the track is another long one 7.16 minutes!!!...
This track is another really quick paced tunes but it all fits into place ith the effects and the background....
The start of the song isn't so lively so it's just warming up , but shortly after you get into it, you feel the vibe and the beats of the track steadily progressing...
The song then speeds up and remains the same for a while, until more and more background effects are added to make it an even more interesting track...
So halfway through the song you really feel that Omni Trio style coming back with some really relaxing beats and that spine tingling sensation once again...
This track gives me an image of years ago when I had a really good friend where we did loads of stuff together, playing games , golf , football everything. This song reminds me of those memoires because this was his favourite Omni Trio song so it really sticks into my mind when I hear it...
Overall, this song is receiving a big 7/10. I really enjoyed this song and it gives me really nice memory of my friend before he moved away. So a high rate for another great Omni Trio song due to it's images it creates and it's peaceful sounds. Although the song isn't my favourite song on the album because it just didn't clench my taste as much as the others...
I would recomend you try out this track and see what you think...
Kind of a strange name for this song, I must admit that but the song itself is no joke...
The start of the song is horrible. The effects a terrible but hey it could only get better. There is nothing special until the song gets in to about a quarter way through, then the song gets more interesting...
A the song progresses even further, the song sounds quite sad and quite a depressing kind of tune. This is such a change to the Omni Trio tradition but I actualy quite like this track. I mean the effects aren't that great but it's a sad song so it is a complete change from the rest of the tracks as I have mentioned, but this is a good move on Omni's part as it's not just fast paced songs that come under the Jungle style name...
So yes this song isn't the best on the album but it's definitly not the worst. The tune is just really quite relaxing when you get into the song, but at the start it is very boring. It is quite a nice natured song and I suppose it is uniqe compared to the other songs on the album so I will award this track with a 6/10...
I would recomend you have a good listen and see what you think!!!... This song runs on for 5.59 minutes so another long one...
When I first heard this song I was very dissapointed in it as it was the very last track featured on the brilliant album...
The pace is the same all the way through with that really fast paced tune with effects that I thought could have been a lot better for the last track on the disc...
There was nothing that I really like about this track and I think it's mainly just a load of racket so not a good one sadly...
Overall, this track will be awarded 2/10. As you know I was very dissapointed with this track unlike the rest of the songs on the album...
I wouldn't recomend that you listen to this song too much... It gave me no image and it lasts too long for a bad tune... 7.50 minutes!!!...
----------------------------- My Final Opinion ----------------------------
In my honest opinion, I can say that the majority of the tracks on the album are superb. A lot of them have very good effects added to them which makes the pleasure of listening to them even more enjoyable..
This is one of the best Omni Trio albums of all 6 of the albums, because of the image that most of the tracks create. I feel that this album is like an adventure waiting to be explored, strange I know but many tracks really make me think hard and long about things which is just amazing, and then the relaxing quality comes in which makes me feel like listening to most of the tracks over and over again...
Of course there are a few tracks such as Kinetic, which was disspointing seeing it is the last track featured on the album, Breakbeat Etiquette was another disspointment as it was the opener to a very good CD, but it had it's highs...
All in all I would award this album a very healthy 8/10 for it's mainly fantastic tracks and so much hard work that has been put into the album, so much enthusiasm has built in to the tracks on the album so a definite favourite of all albums I have, not forgetting the other Omni Trio albums...
------------------------------------------------------- Why Should You Buy This Album? -------------------------------------------------------
You should definitly buy this album if you are a big Drum and Bass/Jungle music fan. This album will look great in your collection of CD's. If a few of the track rates have put you off purchasing then you should try out the tracks on iTunes before you buy it for a little sneak peak of what the album is like to you. You may even purchase the album from iTunes for the low price of £6.32, and will be around £6.00 if you are lucky enough to find it in a music shop near you!!!...
Here are some URL's to also let you listen to the tracks before you buy...
