It was one of the first albums that I bought, and considering that Rod was not a huge star at the time , he achieved the amazing feat of topping the American and British album Charts with “Every Picture Tells A Story” and the equivalent singles charts with “Maggie May”.

"D'ya Think I'm Sexy?" He was a singer with a gravel-voice approximation of Sam Cooke and excellent taste in cover material. Here, he's toned down with folksy covers of Tim Hardin ("Reason to Believe"), Bob Dylan ("Tomorrow is Such a Long Time"), and Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup (via Elvis, "That's All Right Mama"). He tops his interpretive abilities with two originals that have since become standards ("Maggie May", "Every Picture Tells A Story"). Quite a different Rod from the one the world has come to know.--Rob O'Connor

Advantages: Rod Stewarts Finest Album Disadvantages: None
...paved the way for the sort of dross he was to churn out in later years.
This however is an absolute classic. Every track is stunning. It may be thirty years old but it sounds just as fresh today as when I first bought it. A truly indispensable album. ...

Rod Stewart had been the critics' favourite ever since releasing his first two poorly-selling solo albums in 1970, but it took "Every Picture" and his show-stealing performance with the Faces at the Weeley Festival in the summer of 1971 to put him firmly on the map. He was a man of many faces (excuse the pun) - a sensitive folksinger of rootsy, acoustic songs who knew his Dylan from his Ewan MacColl; a gravelly-voiced soulster who revered Sam Cooke ... ...work with the Faces proved, an endearingly shambolic boozy rock'n'roller. What's more, he knew how to pick some of the best musicians and guest singers around. With vocalists like Maggie Bell, Madeleine Bell, and players like classically-trained acoustic guitarist Martin Quittenton, violinist Dick Powell and Lindisfarne's mandolin player Ray Jackson all augmenting the Faces, the results had to be something extra-special. From the title track, a carefree ...

Advantages: Another Great Rod Stewart Album Disadvantages: Possibly His Last Great Album
...This was the follow up to "EveryPictureTells A Story" and while it was not as commercially successful , it is still a great album. Keeping the same line up and a similar mix of songs to it's predecessor , Rod Stewart managed to produce another gem of an album.
The title of the album is very descritive of the content , although , with deliberate irony, the cover features a painting of Mr Stewart, slumped in an armchair looking more than a little bored.
The Album opens with the upbeat self-deprecatory "True Blue", before launching into the gorgeous "Lost (sic) Paraguayos", keeping the same folksy / Faces hybrid sound of "EveryPictureTells A Story". The album slows don for the first cover , Bob Dylan's "Mama You Been On My Mind". Things pick up with "Italian Girls" before slowing down with another cover, this time Jimi...

...with the original single and I hope you're better soon!
Track 2: Tonight's The Night
Ditto!
Track 3: Handbags and Gladrags
Excellent rendition of the old classic used as the theme song for 'The Office" Lends itself well to the unplugged format.
Track 4: Cut Across Shorty
Good North London pub R&B from the old days.
Track 5: EveryPictureTells A Story
Similar style R&B track the chord changes in which have always sent shivers. Title track of one of the best Faces' albums.
Track 6: Maggie May
Do I really need to say anything. I personally prefer the original but this is a good version.
Track 7: Reason To Believe
Classic Faces romantic sing-along anthem. Done well here.
Track 8: People Get Ready
Stab at a gospel standard. It's ok…..but lets be honest, white people can't sing gospel.
Track 9: Have I Told You Lately That I Love...

Advantages: Unerringly good songs and playing Disadvantages: Total playing time a little on the short side
...When Rod Stewart returned to the studio to follow up the massively successful "EveryPictureTells a Story", he had a lot to live up to. Wisely he stuck to the tried and tested formula, switching from acoustic folksy ballads to good-time rock'n'roll with ease, sometimes in the same song. While "Moment" didn't have quite the same impact as "EPTAS" - expectations were sky-high, after all - it was just as good, and certainly fulfilled its swaggering title. Rod had immaculate taste when it came to cover versions, taking on Hendrix's love-lorn "Angel" with ease, going into roistering party mode with Sam Cooke's "Twistin' The Night Away", a version which for a while became even better-known than the original, and best of all treating us to a beautiful reading of the obscure Dylan song "Mama You Been On My Mind", making skilful use...
