Advantages: It has all the songs you would expect to hear Disadvantages: it is about 4 or 5 songs too long
...It is a shame when you remember a band with such good memories, and then you pick up an album to realise they only had a few good songs. 'If the beatles had read hunter' is not bad, but not great either.
It kicks off with 'Welcome to the cheap seats' and you think you may have a gem in your hands, but by the timeyou have heard 'Size of a Cow' you have really heard everything they ever had to offer.
The fact is that when they were good, the wonderstuff were very good, proper pop songs with decent, incisive lyrics and a decent hook. It's just that so many of these are....well...just lacking in something.
This for me has become a driving stalwart. It will pop up in the car stereo every now and then, and I will sing along with the best, and make it comfortably through the rest, but it will never be amongst the classics....

Advantages: Beautiful strings, moving lyrics Disadvantages: Bjorks peculiar grasp of English can be a problem

Both songs have the typical simplicity of emotion, yet complexity of the lyrics signifies a Bjork song. It is a wake up call that she has spent too long living the life she thought was best, living the life she thought she should, but has finally accepted that it is time to grow up and move on. After this, Pluto comes as an immediate shoot down. In Pluto we find someone who has failed, who has experienced the worst available to her, but who...

Advantages: Stunning, both musically and vocally Disadvantages: Could have been longer
...cancer scare. The songs on the album have clearly been picked in the light of his marriage break-up with Rachel Hunter, and what a wonderful collection of love won and lost they are.
Rod has chosen tracks written by brilliant songwriters such as Curtis Mayfield, Macy Gray and John Reid, and his interpretation of them has made them all his own. Most deal with lost love, unrequited love or love from afar, but others celebrate the triumph of the human spirit through dark times and his love of music.
Musically, the album is laid back and slinky, combining old fashioned r'n'b and soul with some very groovy backing tracks. Against this backdrop, Rod's impassioned vocals provide a stunning contrast.
It's rare to find an album where you like every track, but this is the one for me. Stand out tracks for me are the Macy Gray penned song 'Smitten...
