dance music that's as enjoyable to listen as to dance; thus "Everything Ecstatic". Kicking off with "A Joy" (doing exactly what it says in the title), the benchmark for the whole album is set early, based around a frenetic fuzz bass riff and a drum loop, interspersed with backwards percussion, it's simultaneously uplifting and also terrifying. The following "Smile Around The Face" is another literal title, this time far more explicit in its' positive vibe; more drum loops, but this time with a grin-inducing samples halfway between birdsong and organ. In fact, the drums are probably the raison d'etre for this album; in the same way that DJ Shadow's Endtroducing was a masterpiece of what can be done with drum breaks and instrumental snatches, so this album follows the same path, but on a less aggressive scale. The vigorous "Sun Drums and Soil" morphs into a jazz-tinged number; while a few of the tracks ("You Were there With Me" and "Clouding") are more collections of ambient chimes and noises. It's redundant to pick a highlight on such a strong collection; just buy and it and enjoy. --Thom Allott

Album Notes: 'Everything Ecstatic' is the fourth album from former Fridge member Kieran Hebden. The album sees Hebden leave behind the mix of folk and electronica that has graced his previous work and opt for a harsher sound, mixing choice samples, analogue squeaks and harder percussive programming. The 12" only single 'Smile Around The Face' is also included.
Advantages: Does what it says on the tin Disadvantages: Doesn't do much more than that
...The Domino lo-fi electro star goes big, swaggering hip-hop with the help of Percee P and friends. With an odd result. Perhaps this was an attempt by to become more populist after his label signed Arctic Monkeys. Or it could have been simply to spin more money from the same old material… But for whatever reason he embarked upon this project, the fact remains that it is just plain bizarre. The best case scenario for FourTet (real name Kieran Hebden) is that he might gain a new, younger audience. However, if he carries on in this fashion he will alienate the very fans who first brought him recognition.
One could say that he appears to have forgotten his roots. There are far too many remixes of the same songs, making the CD far too repetitive, for example there are FOUR attempts at “A Joy”. Fans will be disappointed to find his most...

...had four previous albums, Enter (1997), The Dance (1998), Mother Earth (2000) and The Silent Force (2006).
The Heart of Everything was released on the 9th March 2007.
**The Cover**
The cover of the album is the first clue that Within Temptation is a gothic band. The picture on the front shows Sharon den Adel in a corseted dress, blindfolded and sitting on a high backed chair. The atmosphere is dark and forboding, and there are doves decorating the right hand side. In large white writing across the top is the band's name, with the title of the album in a smaller red font underneath.
The back of the box gives a track list, and inside there's a nicely presented booklet with the lyrics to all of the songs and some picture's of the band.

1. The Howling
2. What Have You Done - (feat. Keith Caputo)

...Vertical Horizon, made up of Keith Kane, Matt Scannell, Ed Toth and Sean Hurley have been around for about ten years now, although I must admit I'm a relatively recent fan.
They've released four Albums - 'There & Back Again' in 1992, 'Running On Ice' (my favourite) in 1995, 'Live Stages' in 1997, and the very popular 'Everything You Want' in 1999. The last one is what brought them widespread recognition, going double platinum in America, and containing three very popular singles - 'Everything You Want', 'You're A God' and 'Best I Ever Had'.
Their sound is soft, MTV-style rock. They do have the occasional heavier song, but they're few and far between. Early in their career, they did a lot of acoustic stuff, focusing on vocal harmony, with a slightly folk sound. This became more light rock as time went on. It isn't usually my kind...
