This album was a big change. There guitarist had dissapeared but had left some lyrics and brit pop had made guitar music the infashion sound.
It is different from the other albums because they turned the guitars down and added other instruments like trumpet for some tracks. The vocals however were less shout and more sing this time out.
The best song is A Design For Life with magnificent chorus of "we only want to get drunk" and the orchestra violins especially turning it into something like a classical music composition.
The other songs are very indie only the slightly punk Australia filled with the energy of the old albums.
The last track called all surface no feeling is another ballard that tries but fails to be near the majestic design for life but basically with guitar and more effects pedal than violins.
The Richey songs arnt that good musically but as expected very deep and dark lyrics but the words written by Nicky are mediocre to say the least. The cover is bland but similar to holy bible cover in the 3 photos arrangement but this time of the band members.
It was a decent album for the brit pop fans but rock fans who like the guitars up to the max feel a bit dissapointed.....nevermind, Design for Life makes up for it.
