Additional notes
Album Notes: THE EVIL ONE was recorded in the late '70s and produced by Stu Cook. The former Creedence Clearwater Revival bass player caught Erickson and his Aliens at their edgiest. THE EVIL ONE bears a close kinship with Erickson's '60s band, The 13th Floor Elevators. These 15 songs are rife with tales of the assorted demons dogging Erickson's every step. Other writers and performers have invoked such references (Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Alice Cooper, et al), but Erickson truly bore the scars of his psychological turmoil. His commitment to THE EVIL ONE is so complete that it almost seems as if listeners are privy to an exorcism. Many of these songs, such as "Don't Shake Me Lucifer," "Night of the Vampire," "I Walked with a Zombie," and "If You Have Ghosts," are classics in the Erickson catalog. This is a fully sustained work and one of Erickson's best albums.
Advantages: Rocky on Top Form Disadvantages: None Really
...Those wonderful people at Rykodisc deserve to be thanked for putting out these RokyErickson CD's because they are great and thanks to TrustRoky a trust fund set up to protect his well being he will actually get the money for these releases, something that due to unscrupulous record company practices is a real rarity these days .
This CD contains recordings of Roky on his own, other people and with his backing bands The Aliens and The Explosives respectively.
The highlights of this record have to include "A Cold Night For Alligators" apparently inspired by the horror movie "Alligator People" this is a great piece of garage rock and would wet the palette of any 13th Floor Elevators fan. "Night Of The Vampire" during which Rocky's vocal sounds positively possessed here as he strains his way through the song, which is an epic piece...

Advantages: Good Intro To The Man Disadvantages: Not His Best
...The word genus is over used but in the case of Rocky Erickson it is justified, the former lead singer of the seminal 13th Floor Elevators. He paid a heavy price for his exploration of the human psyche through drugs, ending up incarcerated in a asylum for the criminally insane for possession of marijuana. This did his sanity no good at all and he has spent a large part of his life fighting depression, however in recent interviews he seems to be well on the mend. His brother has set up a trust fund for him TrustRocky who have kindly remastered and re-issued a large number of Rocky releases of which this is one.
Don't Slander Me was recorded in 1982 with his backing band The Aliens and the line up was:-
Rocky Erickson - lead Vocals and Guitar
Duane Aslaksen - lead Guitae
Billy Miller - Electric Auto-Harp
André Lewis - Keyboards
Jack...

Advantages: A classic that has great bands Disadvantages: None
...This has got to be the best soundtrack to a punk style comedy movie.
You have such great groups that are on this soundtrack ranging from
45Grave (great choice)
The Jetblack Berries
S.S.Q.
RokyErickson
The Tall Boys
The Cramps
as well as others that make this soundtrack work very well.
There are some really great songs on here that really stand out
Surfin Dead by The Cramps
Party Time by 45Grave
Burn The Flames
These are the key songs from the movie and they really fit both the movie as well as the soundtrack.
The Cramps sing about the dead while 45 Grave sing about Partytime.
Roky Ericson sing about what instrument he sits at and what form of creature he is.
This is a funny but good soundtrack if you are into this type of thing.
I own this cd because I love the music and the movie.
However, if you want to get the full effect of what...
