Full review
Hello again,....

Many thanx for choosing to read my review of Dead or Alive - Evolution (The Hits) CD1, just make sure you read it ALL!!! lol.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, after doing the Dead or Alive - Evolution (The Videos) DVD, it should come as no surprise that this 'Dead or Alive Hits CD, to accompany the DVD is my next review,...
~~~~~A little Bit About Dead or Alive (Incl - Discography)~~~~~

Well, for those of you who don't know, Dead or Alive had a really big hit in 1985 called - 'You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)' which was like, their biggest, and most remembered No, 1 of that year. So much so, that it became the only 'DoA' hit to ever be remembered. (To my knowledge) Most people that I know evan think that it was a "one hit wonder", (or know it as one) evan though they had hits from previous albums earlier in the eighties.

Yes the first album came in 1983 and was called -'Sophisticated Boom Boom', and on it, their first real hit, a cover of K. C. And The Sunshine Bands 'Thats The Way (I Like It)' . This track was probably 'DoAs' most known single in that year, evan though they had released more singles from the album.

Their next album gave 'DoA' global success and made them famus in well, most places in the world. Can you guess which album I'm talking about ??? Come on, its got their biggest (and only) No. 1 on it,.... Yes its 'Youthquake', the album that gave us the No. 1 hit 'You Spin' way back in 1985. Of cours, DoA had released more singles of the album to,... 'In Too Deep', 'Lover Come Back (To Me)' and 'My Heart Goes Bang (Get Me To The Doctor)', but who rememberes (or evan knows) them ???

Dead or Alives other albums over the years incl.... 'Mad, Bad And Dangerous To Know' (1986), 'Nude' (1989), 'Fan The Flame' (only released in Japan) (1991), 'Nukleopatra' (1995), 'Fragile' (2000) and of course, 'Evolution - The Hits (2003, re-ralease 2006), which is the CD I'll be talking about, that is of course, if your still with us,......

~~~~~More Info About This Cool Album~~~~~
~~~~~My Favorites, From The Collection~~~~~

Well, My favorite singles incl.... 'You Spin', both versions, 'Hit & Run Lover', 'Sex Drive', 'Lover Come Back (To Me)' (2003 version) and 'Brand New Lover'.

'Sex Drive', taken from the album 'Nukleopatra' (1995) was a collabaration with an, Italian dance group called 'Glam'. The single shot up the charts in Italy, but I don't think anywhere else noticed it, which was a real pity as the song is GREAT. Its very well produced and is a great listen. Its very moody and actually has a really deep vibe, although the main theme of the song is well, getting it on, with just about anyone and everyone. "Sex Drive, It Sees No, Gender Or Color So Lets Get Together And Collide With Each Other",.. Lyrics taken from the single to give a bit of insight and direction to the meaning of the song.

As for 'You Spin', (album 'Youthquake', 1985) the first version that I heard was the original 1985 version, I'd actually heard it for the very first time on a music channel about six years or so ago, and I have loved it ever since. The 2003 version is also really good, I heard that for the first time on a music channel too, back in 2003. I won't go on about it to much as I've said loads about it in previous reviews any way.

I also love the 2003 remix version of 'Lover Come Back (To Me)'. Its just so much more modern. They broke the track down and gave it more of a structure and made it sound more like a club tune. Its a great song and really worth a listen. The original version of the song, which is taken from the album 'Youthquake' (1985) is not on this CD, it is however, on the DVD. It is good, but I think the 2003 version is better.

'Hit & Run Lover', from the album 'Fragile' (2000) is one of my favorites because it reveals a more deep and moody vibe that you don't really hear in most other 'DoA' single on the album. When I listen to it, I always think that the song is quiet dark and atmospheric, although it still has quiet a fast paced, dance feel to it.

'Brand New Lover', from the album 'Mad, Bad And Dangerous To Know' (1986) is so funny and lively. Its very 'old-school' and eighties pop techno, and the video is set round a cow-boy theme.

~~~~~Other Stuff About The Album I Should Problyz Mention~~~~
What, besides from the fact that its co cool ???
- Re-release date - 13/02/2006
- Original year released - 2003 (sometime in)
- Record companies and publishers: Sony Music UK, USA and Japan, Aki Tanaka, Yoichi Numata, Etsuko Kobata, PWL and 'Epic'.
~~~~~The Booklet And Sleeve~~~~~

Well its not bad, but its not that good either. Well, as you can see from the pic, its just our good friend Pete Burns with big red heir, among other things,..........

The CD also comes in a card sleeve of the same pic.

I'd give it a maybe...... 3 out of 10 for artistic effort.

~~~~~And As For The Booklet~~~~~
Well its not that bad actually, its very informative, its got everything you need to know about the album and the songs on it. It also has a brief history of both Pete, and Dead or Alive.
~~~~~The Overall GOOD Points~~~~~

A truly BRILLIANT collection of songs from over the years with alot of color, diversity and energy. A GREAT listen with some real good singles, and some better ones...

~~~~~The Overall BAD Points~~~~~
Well, like the DVD review, I'm going to have to say nothing but Pete Burns, the guy is a real nasty piece of work. But I'm not afraid to like his music, or tell you all about it, because thats how GOOD it is...
~~~~~Go, Buy This Album~~~~~

Well I got my copy of this album (CD1 version) at Play.com for £11.99 back in 2003 but its now available for only £9.99 (the re-release)

Unfortunately, they've sold out of the 2 disk collection, or else I would have bought that one instead of the 1 disk, never mind.

You could always buy this album on Amazon as well, but I'm not to sure of the price.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I think thats me done... I can't think of any think else to say...
Thanx very much for the read, much appreciated.
Loadz of Love
