Prodigy's Liam Howlett was creating high-energy dance music by marrying sampled, pitch-shifted beats to all manner of electronic timbres. This album has it all: complicated break beats, housey piano riffs, lush analog pads, frenetic and computeresque melodies, and subsonic bass. In fact, the mélange is so dense that the material demands full attention and repeated listenings to gain a complete understanding of the rhythmic interplay. --Michael A. Massa

I think that you will notice similar themes running through their second album - Music for the Jilted Generation - but there are sets of very different music from here on out for the Prodigy. The second album features swearing, thats not something I am particularly fond of in music, but apart from that the Prodigy have done a good job there too.
Some say that this was the Prodigy's prime and that they had slipped a bit and come away from their 'roots' as it were, but I would disagree. I think that the group showed imense ability at being able to change their style with the times because lets be honest this is a classic and it would not be a classic if all of their albums were the same!!
The album consists of 12 tracks filled with musical energy and the head nodding, steering wheel tapping addiction that has not been so prominant in other albums from this time or since in this division of music. The more 'famous' tracks included are 'Out of Space', 'Everybody in the place' and 'Fire'.
All in all this is a cracking album by the Prodigy, one which concentrates on the music rather than trying to fit lyrics in to a tune, or vice versa. A must if you like this kind of music genre - probably not one for those who enjoy a lot of easy listening, but I'd check it out anyway. The cover and cd box is nothing special - black and white with just a picture of the group on the back. The booklet is a little comical and features space-age drawings of the group members with information about what they do in the band and then a load of random babble in space age jargon.
A cool first album for the Prodigy and more have followed, but this one is the classic and most innovative out of them all.
Advantages: Brilliance, genius and originality of classic Prodigy. Disadvantages: Tends to get a tad boring in some places.
This is classic prodigy. and when i say classic i mean classic, because this does not sound like Prodigy. or should I say Prodigy's new stuff is NOT Prodigy, this is them, in their prime. All the songs have differences, and individuality, and in all their own rights, brilliance. It has classics like "Charly" and "Out Of Space", yet these songs are unknown to apparent "Prodigy fans". This song is quite comical to say the truth, many casually made ...

Experience by The Prodigy - one of the best albums ever! I first bought this album when I was about 10 years old in the 90's. This is The Prodigy's first ever album in the dawining of the 'rave' era in the 1990's. Containing absloute classics such as 'Out Of Space', 'Everybody's In The Place' , 'Charlie' and much more.
I cannot praise this album enough, it is the catalyst that got me into electronic music. All of thetracks on it are geniously produced ... ...music and countless producers have been influenced by this.
This album covers so many genres of music including rave, techno, jungle, dub, raggae. I myself as a techno producer and DJ frequently play tracks from this in my techno mixes including techno mix cd's and techno club mixes also.
If you have an interest in any sort of electronic music - BUY THIS ALBUM NOW!!!

Advantages: Still good to listen to and very original Disadvantages: Prodigys music has changed a lot since and may not be to everyones taste
This is the debut album by the prodigy and was released in November 92. This band originated from the rave scene of the early 90’s and started their career played at raves and small clubs.
Their second single, ‘Charly’ got to number 3 in the charts, this gave rave a big step into mainstream music and into the charts. This single sampled the famous saying from the children’s safety ad with the cat and the young boy saying ... ...somewhere’. After it was release many copycat type singles were released, such as ‘Trumpton’, ‘Rhubarb And Custard’ and ‘The Smarties Sesame’s Treet’. Many have said that this explosion of rave tracks into the charts ended the rave scene and as the prodigy’s single was the first of these, they were accused of killing rave.
Other singles released from this album were ‘Fire/Jericho’, ...

Advantages: Classic Prodigy Disadvantages: More restrained style than recent albums
This is the Prodigy's debut album and is the start of a great career. This first album orignates from the late 80's rave scene. Despite these underground links the album succeeded beyond the groups expectations in the chart scene. Singles such as Your Love, Charly, Out of Space and Fire all hit the top 20 of the charts.
It is a good album, but will not appeal to some of the fans of their second two albums. This is beacuse the album is refrained ...

Advantages: great fun Disadvantages: rather repetitive
This album is a classic collectors piece for anybody interested in the origins and development of dance music today. Whilst I am a bit fan of the Prodigy, I think this, their first album, really does tell of the music scene as it was in the very early 1990s. The cheesy rave lyrics, poorly sampled and stretched, are interesting to listen to just to wonder how these songs were ever really seen as vaguely 'cool'. As an album of its time it was nothing ... ...the song said to have 'killed' the rave scene: Charly. An unremarkable piece in itself, Charly involved a sampling of a public information video and was said to have triggered the beginning of the 'cheesy rave' era. Yet having listened to the other tracks on the CD, you should be in no doubt that Charly was not the worst offender. While I quite enjoy the Experience, it is definitely an album to be taken at face value: an average but in retrospect ...

THE PRODIGY "EXPERIENCE" CD - Buy it for no more than £6.99
Liam Howlett, the brains behind The Prodigy (see my review of "Music for the Jilted Generation" for more in depth detail regarding the band), originally wanted to write this album almost as a concept album, similar to what Pink Floyd did with "Echoes" (A fantastic album in it's own genre). Hence, I would imagine, the title "Experience" ... was to be an Experience or representation of the rave scene at the time, which was still developing from it's origins of acid house in the mid 80's into various branches of what was later termed as "dance music".
Rave music, as a term, later became more synonymous with a branch of dance music, most notably called "old skool" today. However, everything within the dance music scene, whether it be drum & bass, hardcore, garage, funky ...
this is there first of many albums and is an absolute classic everyone should own this cd it takes you back to the old skool days, you no what i mean about 1989 to about 93 the time when electronic music changed the world forever and this album was part of that

Advantages: A peak in dance music. Disadvantages: Not for those who like smiley faces and glow sticks.
dance music's finest hour, Music for the Jilted Generation.
The Prodigy's first album, "theProdigyExperience", can be said to very much a product of its time i.e. the first outpourings of rave. Messy, slightly cheesy, but full of vibrance and energy. Jilted Generation however contained all the energy, without the happy smiley face. Right from the very start a aura of menace pervades the atmosphere. "Break and Enter" is superb, a sledgehammer of a song that captures you and never lets you go. The theme of smashing the system carries on throughout the album, most obviously in the collaboration with Pop Will Eat Itself, "Their Law", and its battlecry of "F*ck em, and Their Law". "No good" must be considered one of the best dance songs ever written, and certainly the most danceable.
Its not all big beats and basslines though. "Heat (The ...
