Advantages: Great lyrics, tunes and general musicianship Disadvantages: could have included some great guitar solos, but didn't
...When I first listened to this album, the first thing that struck me was the insightful, funny, and constantly in-fitting (is that a word?) lyrics to the songs. They can write any type of song, from the light punky stylings that I have seen in Green Day and the Offspring, to Southern American style reminiscent of Dolly Parton and, the great lyricist himself, Bob Dylan, and they can write it about anything, from seemingly hard bikers to the experience of riding through New York City in a survival car. I would recommend it to pretty much anyone, but it would be especially enjoyable to fans of such bands as Green Day or Blur. The musicianship is as tight as Eddie Van Halen's trousers and the arrangement is almost unparalelled. I can see from this debut album why this band bloomed into the hugely successful act that it has become....

Advantages: , in parts weird, beautiful, unexpected, difficult listening, inspired Disadvantages: , in parts weird, beautiful, unexpected, difficult listening, inspired
...This is a slightly updated version as I noticed that the category ratings ( Lyrics, packaging etc ) had disappeared. I am corrrecting that, adding a bit more info on the track listing and giving my current view of the CD.
At first I did not know what to make of this album. It is only now after 4 weeks of listening that I am beginning now to express my real feelings towards it.
It experiments more than any of the other three albums, moving from ambient to jazz to guitar rock to synth rock and back.
Track listing
1. Everything In Its Right Place.
A gorgeous ethereal experience with Yorkes' voice layered over and over and bent against itself
2. Kid A
It seems strange but the feeling that comes to mind is listening to Kate Bush. Listen back to The Sensual World and The Hounds of Love and see what I mean. A fragile twilight...

Advantages: not as depressing as 'The Bends' Disadvantages: slightly depressing?
...Radiohead have evolved from the 'The Bends', thankfully, as that album HAS to be the most depressing ever!
Every track on this great work of art gets deep under your skin, from the modern day Bohemian Rhapsody of 'Paranoid Android' to the raucous opening of 'Airbag' this is a half-hour aural journey that you will never forget...........
Although a few tracks are a little hard to listen to, you'll need to draw the curtains, turn down the light and listen properly to experience Thoms' wonderful voice.
Thom Yorke is truly magnificent, he sings each song in a different style but still manages to capture the mood and feel of each in a way only he can.
This is one of those albums that absolutely everyone I know owns, and there is little more I can say about this album before I get all sentimental and write drivel!
No CD collection...

*** ME AND ARETHA FRANKLIN ***
For years, for me, hearing the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin is like seeing a sunset. The milieu so peaceful. The landscape so remarkable. The colors so beautiful. The experience so mirthful.
The sound of Aretha Franklin, for me, is like poetry. Whether forsaken ballads or broken-hearted blues, Aretha draws on the highest vigor of inspiration. Like poetry, listening her songs is always delightful.
*** RECOMMENDATION ***
I am not a musician and neither a music-critic. However, I have the courage to say that we will not regret to add this CD, Aretha Franklin Love Songs, to our...

Advantages: Moments of brilliance, original inventive sound. Disadvantages: Extremely unaccessible for a casual listener
...in almost tribal fashion. Inspired by the imagery of a Tokyo traffic jam, Yorke captures the sense of urgency in a manner to frighten the listener, yet also offer reflective calm. It's a strange experience. Like a hypnotized soon-to-be-goner watching over the arrival of a natural disaster, and cursing the Blairites in the process.
4. Black Swan - 6/10 - (I don't care what the future holds / Cause i'm right here and i'm today )
An insanely difficult song to grasp with one listen. Taken directly from A Scanner Darkly, Yorke cuts up a host of funky beats and somehow manages to curse them with the sound of a truly demoralising piece. A strangled riff flickers under the surface and we're left to chew the fat of Thom's lyric. Unlike the path he could have taken, Yorke has opted to shroud his words in abstract doubt. While the same process may work...

Advantages: It's great! It's mad! It even has a couple of guitars on it... Disadvantages: Should have featured Humph and the band playing Mornington Crescent!
..."Thomas Yorke, you have been bought before this court on the charge of perverting the course of good experimental rock music with your release Amnesiac, which the prosecution feels is an overblown, masturbationary effort to please yourselves, distance your band from melody and alienate your fan-base. These are indeed serious charges, and if found guilty of them, you will be led from this courtroom, to a place of prog-jazz-rock, where your head will be ceremonially thrust between your own buttocks. How do you plead?"
Yorke: "Not guilty."

"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, Aphex Twin is an avant-garde recording artist who makes electronic music of a high standard. Aphex Twin does not make sense. Radiohead have consistently recorded albums which attempt to emulate Aphex Twin, which does...
