Dinsmore, guitarist/sitar player/keyboardist and bassist Jason Goodrow, and percussionist/engineer Phil Painson, a trio of New Yorkers committed to mixing dope beats with Indian vibes.Export Qualityis the band's second album with Dinsmore, a previous member of bands such as Ska crew The Toasters, reggae hip-hop heads Unity 2 and rock band Supercuz, remaining the principal powerhouse. On wax, DDP come up with a sound that is slightly different to many so-called UK Asian Underground artists. It's less song-based and sinuous than Nitin Sawhney for example, less epic and drum-&-bass-motivated than Talvin Singh and slightly less breaks-based than London indie label Swaraj. Dinsmore's tuff beats and chemical basslines carry a fairly tough downtempo/hip-hop feel and their torpor pulls constantly against the dense amalgams of Sitar, percussion, keys, tablas and vocals. There's a guitar-heavy rock drive apparent within the sound too which adds to a general aura of "heaviness" in places and anchors any rich Bollywood strings or sprightly Eastern motifs that might occur. It's ultimately a quite engaging sound that stands up well to close scrutiny but at times you find yourself wishing for a bit more levity and space. --Paul Sullivan

After a friend brought this album around for a party he put it on for about 6 seconds before the it was taken off by an ugly little boy who looked like a monkey and from those first six seconds of 'The kind of day I've had' I wanted that album, so a few days went by and I went to town and brought the album from HMV. I got home, stuck it on the stereo and started to play on the N64 (I was playing on Zelda 64:The ocarenia of time but that is a bit to mush info), I noticed that this album was one of the best listening experencise of my life, I put it on repeat and listened to it over and over and over until I fell to sleep. I woke up the next day knowing all the lyrics and tunes to all the songs, it was just great.
Now the thing that is so great about this album is that the songs on it are a mixture of layed back rock and ballards, I ...
to touch and is made of fleece type material. It measures around 30cm in length and is a light brown colour. It has a small mechanism inside its tummy that when squeezed it will play a short little phrase of the character. The sound is easily activated but not overly sensitive so basically it will only activated if you meant it to be!
There are only four different phrases that are programmed into the Makka Pakka soft toy and this doesn't seem like many but because the character really doesn't say that much in the programme it is really all the phrases that could be programmed in!
The says that the soft toy will say are things such as his song "Makka Pakka, Akka Wakka"..... "Hum, dum, Agga Pang..". And other sayings such as his name" Makka Pakka". The sayings do get tiring after a while of being said but they are not done in an overly ...

Title refers to the theme tune of the Old Grey Whistle Test of course!
Presenter Bob Harris (AKA "Whispering Bob Harris", because of his quiet voice and "laid back" style). did a brilliant job of presenting a programme a lot of you won't have heard of. You may have seen mickey takes of it on shows like "The fast show" doing a parady called The Jazz Show (cool) and even Monty Python's Flying Circus did a sketch of it, The show brought onto the stage new bands, with the emphasis on "real music" with no miming or special effects to improve anything. The stage props were either curtains, or more often just the backs of the walls from other sets.
Released by BBC Video, in conjunction with Warner Home Video, there are three DVDs in the series. They are available individually or as a set. Packaging is the same as all DVDs. You will ...
