Fabric is a huge club in london. Every week it features the biggest names from various genres of music ranging from dance, breakbeat, hip-hop, garage, drum & bass, etc. Past and present DJs include; Scratch Perverts, DJ Hype & Andy C, Meat Katie, DJ Yoda, DJ Spinbad,
FabricLive is an extension of the club. Its a record label which releases CDs from the artists which perform at Fabric on Friday nights (the FabricLive nights). These include: DJ Hype, Grooverider, Fabio, J Majik, John Peel, Joe Ransom, Freestylers etc
Djs who perform at other times, get to release CDs under the record name Fabric. These include: Craig Richards & Terry Francis, John Digweed, DJ Heather etc.

There are 3 DJs named Tony Vegas, Prime Cuts and Plus One, these DJs have collaborated and formed the Scratch Perverts. Each one of them has won every individual scratching title ranging from ITF World Champions, to DMC World Champions. As the Scratch Perverts are also a team, they have also won all of the team scratching competitions world wide. They perform near-enough every Friday at Fabric, whilst touring and Dj-ing in every corner of the world!

Having previously seen the hugely impressive Scratch Perverts on numerous Friday nights at Fabric, I have been eagerly anticipating this release! I was not sure what to expect other than hip hop beats, and cuts -much like they do at Fabric.
However this CD is different. Not only do they have the hip-hop beats and cuts, but also a variety of different musical genres all pasted together. The genres include: Break-beat, Drum & Bass, Dance, Rock, and hip-hop.
It's nice to hear a CD that features a variety of different genres of music, not particularly specialising in one over another (although the Scratch Perverts roots are in hip hop). This makes its interesting when listening to, with the changing beats, bass and samples throughout. The selection of music tracks is distinctly 'Fabric'. They are played regularly by many of the DJs. The tracks featured are strictly specialist, no-commercial tunes, which have climbed the chart ladders in each of their own specific specialist music genres.
Due to the album being of a specialist nature, it reflects quite nicely the club Fabric itself -providing the listener with a glimpse of a FabricLive night.
One aspect of this album that surprised me was the scratching and cutting. I thought the Scratch Perverts would produce a CD similar to an earlier FabricLive CD (FabricLive 14) by DJ Spinbad. He did more cutting and pasting, whereas the Scratch Perverts concentrated more on mixing, with cuts thrown in. Live the Scratch Perverts, seem to take a more cutting and pasting approach, but this CD is cool. Great to listen to, and is stored in my iPod Shuffle for when I go running and to the gym.
Boy racers should love this CD! Great beats and bass to get their sub-woofers pounding! Having mentioned this, Fabric, and the Scratch Perverts on my radio show I have had so many people contacting the studio wanting more details of this album. This album has stirred up the most listener phone / text / email-ings of all the Fabric Albums I have mentioned! This one is hot, a must for any Scratch Pervert / FabricLive / scratch music fan!

This album is £10.00, or if you subscribe £6 (due to savings on retail and distribution costs) if purchased through the Fabric website (www.fabriclondon.com). However it can be purchased through HMV or other major music retailers (although it does tend to be a little more expensive).

As with every Fabric / FabricLive CD this comes in an embossed metal CD box, with an attractive card sleeve wrapped around it -not the usual plastic tat, high quality stuff!

Overall this CD is great value for money ), I personally dont think it can be beaten on musical value (great variety and musical choice) or presentation quality. This is a must for fans of scratch music, and of the Scratch Perverts. Go check this one out! Good review, i haven't heard many mixes by the scratch perverts so far but i love the fabric series. They are great, my favourite is 09 by Jacques Lu Cont. Trying to find the latest one by Adam Beyer but it's not in my local hmv. H.xo
