Ok, so this is the third instalment of The Fast and The Furious, or is it another film just borrowing on the success of the other two films.

Its a different style of racing, "drifting" its not about that 1/4 of a mile or km anymore its just about going fast and too the limit to beat each other around various raceways notably at the start a multi-storey carpark, to the mountains outside the city.

The Cars:

The cars range from modded VW's to Vipers, and Hyundai sports. In the start and ending of the film you get some reference to the previous two films which attempt to add some continuity to the storyline, but apart from those references this is all new.

Thrown out is the muscle cars of old and the nitrous fueled speedsters, in come new sporty small cars in an urban sprawl, where its not about teh sheer speed but the control of going around sharp corners at high speed.

The Story:

Gone is all reference of police and chases in that regard , and in come a criminal leaning and persuasion to teh audience that if you can get away with crime is ok. As can be seen in one scene where Sean and Han are overtaken by a sporty coupe , Han gives sean the go and suddenly the first and only nitrous injection takes place and they hurtle past the coupe and continue at 197kph past a polioce car where sean is surprised they don't chase. Han explains that the police have only factory spec vehicles that top at 180kph so if anyone goes over that speed they don't bother chasing.

Then again later on in the film theres a 4 car chase in downtown tokyo, and not a police car or vehicle in sight, let alone chasing or stood still. Suddenly tokyo no longer has a police force.

The main reference is that of gaijin ( outsider) and teh storyline revolves around the outsider coming in and changing the scene. America conquers the East once again.

The love aspect is taken up in stark contrast and slows what is a great film down to one which is not brilliant. Yes it completes teh gaijin reference adn helps integrate teh american influence into the east, Yet in parts it detracts from teh overall film concept of fast cars-fast women that teh two before have been based on with such success.

The bonus Features:

Now these on teh other hand is what shows teh creativity in the making of the film, with a history of "drift " racing, and also how to mod a car for this type of racing with some narrative and shown stunts of how to drive in that style.

Now these are what i would have liked to see and was glad they were included as bonus material. Its not all about the film its about the story.

The film overall was a slight let down but generally was a great film,
