I reviewed Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas before and so I thought I'd review the soundtrack which I bought quite recently. All the songs have a bit of dialogue beforehand which helps you realise where you are in the film and it helps to grab the drug induced elements of the film in keeping to the soundtrack.
The soundtrack is one of those that has a good range of songs that were released - not just songs made up specifically for the film. For example there's a good track listing: - Combination of the Two - Big Brother and the Holding Company - One Toke Over the Line - Brewer and Shipley - She's a Lady - Tom Jones - For Your Love - The Yardbirds - White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane - Get Together - The Youngbloods - Mama Told Me Not to Come - Three Dog Night - Stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues again - Bob Dylan - Time is Tight - Booker T & The MG's -Magic Moments - Perry Como - Tammy - Debbie Reynolds - Expecting to Fly - Buffalo Springfield - Viva Las Vegas - The Dead Kennedys
As well as these 13 songs there is a 3 part 'drug-score' performed by Tomoyasu Hotei and Ray Cooper.
The album artwork, cover and inlay are great, they incorporate the film tremendously and I was pretty impressed with it, also includes some Steadman artwork (the splattered trademarked artwork from the books!) Unfortunately the lyrics aren't inside but the soundtrack is brilliant anyway and most of the songs are well known.
The dialogue before each song is good to help visualise the film and also to add that 'Fear and Loathing' effect to it and they are hilarious without having to even see the film!!!
Its a great album but I do find some of the tracks and bit annoying - There's a limit to how many times you can listen to Magic Moments without thinking of Quality Street!
Overall if you love the film its a great mix, if you love the book too or if you want something easy to listen to!
Good piece of Fear and Loathing merchandise I say!
