Advantages: great soundtrack, very funny Disadvantages: none
I can't remember when I first saw this - after all it is quite old (1984). I remember I missed the first bit, but thought the rest of it was great - in fact I think it was on the end of a video of something else I had recorded. Years later I have seen the film several times and own my own DVD of it.
The story is based on two brothers - Jake (James Belushi) and Elwood (Dan Acykroyd) Blues. Jake has just been released from prison and Elwood has just picked him up.
Their first stop is the Penguin - in fact the Penguin is a nun. She tells them that the orphanage they grew up in is about to be closed down because it owes so much tax. The only way it can be saved is by raising the money - legally. There is only on answer - reform the BluesBrothers Band.
And so starts a bizzare series of adventures as our two heroes travel round ...

THE SONGS
11 tracks are included on this album; all are from the original movie, although some are slightly edited so that they are suitable for a soundtrack album. This editing is barely noticeable though.

Jake Blues (John Belushi) sings the, typically blues, lyrics well. ? 8/10
2 ? Peter Gunn Theme ? This instrumental follows a same beat as the previous track, as well as style. A continuous ...
Advantages: Some good songs Disadvantages: Trying too hard to emulate the original
As a huge fan of the original "BluesBrothers" film, my heart sank when I heard they were planning on updating it. After all, remakes of classic films rarely go well, with the likes of "Alfie" and "The Italian Job" not faring too well in recent years. Admittedly, this was to be more of an updated version, possibly a tribute film in many ways, featuring many of the original cast, but the original was such a fun film, could that feeling be replicated, or was it a one off?
It is nearly twenty years from the last show, which began with Jake being released from prison and ended with the whole band in jail. This time it is Elwood who is just getting out of prison, this time to discover he is all alone, with his brother and his father figure having died whilst he was incarcerated. As before, his first thought is to visit the nun who raised ...
