Norah Jones released her second album “Feels Like Home” less than 2 years after “Come Away With Me”, for those of you who know nothing of her, her rich sultry style can only be described as somewhere between Jazz and Country with a slight injection of pop.

With Me, easy listening's 24 year-old poster girl Norah Jones has a staggering weight of expectation to live up to. However, anyone expecting to be wowed from the start stands to be disappointed. At face value it's Come Away with Me MkII, albeit a more countrified version without the instantly dreamy and delightful melodies of "Don't Know Why" and "Come Away with Me". Over the long haul though, it's a quietly brilliant leap forward that not only lives up to expectation, but far exceeds it. With "Sunrise", "Those Sweet Words" and "Carnival Town" Jones ushers in more gentle sauntering and jazz-sweet reflection, but this time the understated dirt-track atmospheres don't just conjure pretty twilight moods; they convey a beauty and a powerful emotional cache that lingers. Likewise, "The Prettiest Thing" murmurs with tender sadness while the low-slung swagger of "In the Morning" broods with so much lip-curling passion it's almost seedy. However, the proof of just how far Jones has come lies in "Don't Miss You At All". A humbling end-of-the-affair lullaby built around the two-in-the-morning piano of Duke Ellington's instrumental "Melancholia", it's as moving as it is brave. --Dan Gennoe

Advantages: A few nice tracks Disadvantages: A few bad tracks
If you have read my review of Norah Jones first album (Come Away With Me), then you will know that it was only recently I discovered what I have been missing out on.
“Come Away With Me” was a tremendous debut album winning her several Grammy awards, no to mention selling millions of copies, an outstanding start any performer would be delighted with. So it goes without saying that her second album would have to be something simply magical ... ...Jones released her second album “Feels Like Home” less than 2 years after “Come Away With Me”, for those of you who know nothing of her, her rich sultry style can only be described as somewhere between Jazz and Country with a slight injection of pop.
“Come Away With Me” was a much more relaxed album, a true chill out sound with a tinge of sadness but “Feels Like Home” has a very different sound, it’s ...

Advantages: A mellow collection with some excellent songs Disadvantages: Some tracks fall short of the high standards she set herself
...about finding out how someone feels about you, but not quite believing it. It is a dreamy song musically, and one which will always chill you out rather than getting any blood pumping. It is a nice enough song, but there is just something missing that I can’t put my finger on. The more I listen to it, the more I am inclined to think it lacks emotion, but I know many who disagree with me. 5/10
‘Carnival Town’ is the slowest track on the album, and ... ...jazz heavy song, which just feels that it needs that final push to deliver what it hints at. 5/10
The opening bars of ‘The Long Way Home’ are like something you’d see on an old cowboy film, and does not get the song off to the best of starts, but when this lolloping beat continues through the song, it overpowers the vocals, and makes for a disastrous song. It is a cover version, and in my opinion, one that she would have been better off leaving ...

Advantages: Such lovely music to relax to Disadvantages: perhaps a tad bit to relaxing
...she has no choice. She feels so guilty about the way she treated him and it seems that she is humbled by the lord God and sees this as punishment for the way she treated her ex. That’s the first part. After it seems as though she is talking to her ex on the phone. "Baby Teresa she got your eyes, I see you all the time" is an indication of this. This is a religious song about a woman who believes she is being punished by god for the way she treated her ex. That’s the reason for the words "you humble me lord" This is such a sad song. Its one of the best songs I have ever heard. A true work of magic above ground: This song is about a person who is on her way to meet someone. She is shy and needs ...

Advantages: fantastic voice and a chilled out feel Disadvantages: maybe too laid back in places
There is a familiar concept banded around in musical circles known as… "The difficult second album". It is a phenomenon that rightly haunts many artists and there is good reason for it. Imagine you are a band or artist struggling round the circuit for years writing your material as your own whim and desire takes you, testing those songs in front of live audiences for years and then one day it happens, the contract is signed, the studio is booked ... ...very little, the problem arises a year later when the men in the suits call a meeting with you to say they want a follow up album that pushes you even further into the public eye, a few more singles like the last ones and a worthy follow up to the debut album. Now you have to replicate in a matter of months for this album what it was that you spent years over for the first album. Hence the concept of a difficult second album. Often in a rush to follow ...
