...The Music
This is the first of two albums of Schubert’s Lieder composed for piano and voice. Schubert composed the music to the work of such classical poets including, Goethe, Collins and Shakespeare.
Each Lied tells a story of its own. The lyrics are sung in German but a translation is included in the cover.
I won't give a track by track listing of the CD as this is easily available but will mention some of my personal favourites.
1. Lieder: Die Forelle: The Trout (Schubert)
A playful a cheerful tale of a trout's journey through a stream. Most people will know and love Schubert's piano quintet also entitled The Trout.

The final movement begins like a happy, stamping dance, a good, rustic tune that seems almost too cheerful after all we've heard. It leads to another of Schubert’s most glorious melodies in which the cello “sings” in its high register. All seems sunshine and light until the final minutes when the music speeds up, and the dance is revealed as a terrifying chase with Death the hunter. At the last gasp the music appears to reach the safety of the final chord – but that last chord is a shudder. Death has claimed its own. And Schubert knew all too well who that was to be…

Advantages: Fantastic in all ways!! Disadvantages: Heavy stuff if you don't like musicals!
...does not happen" and for some reason unbeknown to my self thats one of the best parts, so many people will disagree with me, but hey what can i do?! Its pretty darn amazing when Micheal Crawford sings too!!
Poor fool he makes me laugh, always makes me laugh. The rest of the songs (Little Lotte/The Mirror, I Remember/Stranger Than You Dream It, Magical Lasso, Notes/Prima Donna, Poor Fool He Makes Me Laugh, Why Have You Brought Me Here/Raoul I've Been There, Masquerade/Why So Silent, Notes/Twisted Every Way, Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again , Wandering Child/Bravo Monsieur,Point Of No Return) are all good songs in the own right, i must admit i never search through my ipod to find these songs in particular like i do with the others but if the come on, i usually don't flick them off!!
