Review of Claudio Abbado Edition by bassclef

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...I happen to go through a sale in a CD shop in London and came across this recording of Incidental music to two plays, written by Beethoven. The longer work is the incidental music to "The Consecration of the House". Most music lovers might know the overture but the complete incidental music is a sheer joy. The orchestra is Abbado's own, the Berlin Philharmonic and the soloists are Sylvia McNair and Bryn Terfel. There is a considerable amount of choral writing. The music is rich, joyous and, at times, full of grandeur. The recoding is suitably warm and rich whic matches the performances. The other item is a piece I did not know existed. It is music to Dunker's play "Leonora Prohaska". This is aslo a great find. This CD is an indispensable addition to all Beethoven lovers.... Read review

The best from the masters
Review of Aqualung (25th Anniversary Edition) [Remastered] - Jethro Tull by cfc1888

Advantages: thius is the type of album that you can relax to after a hard days work
Disadvantages: to be honest I can't think of any disadvantages about this album

...The star of this album is without a doubt Ian Anderson who literally jumps out of the speakers at you and stands right there in your living room. Aqualung was the album that was to start the run of hit albums for Tull and was to launch the band onto the international music scene and earn them the mantle of rock superstars. All the tracks on the album are great but the ones that stand out from the rest are Cross Eyed Mary, Locomotive Breath and the title track Aqualung: note, a lot of the tracks on here also appear on the best of albums which says a lot for the tracks. Apart from the ones mentioned there are some tracks that never seem to get a mention but are every bit as good, namely Mother Goose to name but one. You either like Tull or you hate them and if you are sitting on the fence about the issue buy this album and you... Read review
