I must admit this is not normally the kind of CD I would buy, but my better half decided she really wanted it so off we went to our local Tesco store to get a copy.

Due to the fact that I’m not a Pop, Dance, Disco or whatever kind of music you want to call it fan, I thought it would be interesting for me to give an opinion on this CD.

The Album, which is entitled Fever and is a mixed bag of up tempo dance tracks and slower free flowing pop tracks.

The Tracks

First up is a track called More More More, and it is a funky upbeat track with Kylie displaying her seductive sultry voice of to a tee, this is a rather good track and in my mind a good opener for the album.

Next is Love At First Sight, this is an interesting song due to some nice musical touches which I think in turn overshadows the lyrics completely, which is rather a shame, not a bad song but certainly not a track I would listen to too often.

Number three and if you haven’t heard this yet where have you been? Yes it’s Can’t Get You Out Of My Head, now I first heard this track while I was on holiday a while back and I loved it then as I still do now, this song is catchy and is a great pop track.

The title track Fever is up next and is in my opinion an over engineered piece with Kylie sounding like a mid nineties girl band, weak vocals and some unnecessary musical tweaks here a very weak track indeed.

Give It To Me is at first glance a great track with Kylie’s vocals returning to a stronger more raunchy tone than which was displayed on Fever, my only gripe with the track is at around the 2 minute mark when the vocals go from raunchy to whiney but with this only lasting for around 40 seconds I can let it slide.

The tempo drops down now for Fragile, a dreamy almost oriental feel on this one for me with sweet lyrics and even sweeter vocals, a good song to listen to while trying to chill.

Come Into My World musical reminds me of early Depeche Mode work and this is a plus for me, the vocals fit well and become rather catchy after a few listens, I can see this being a track that grows on you after a good period of time.

In Your Eyes is next and is another track that in time will become a firm favourite, with a samba feel snuck into the backdrop it’s hard not to move when the track is on.

Dancefloor is track number 9 and unfortunately it sounds far too much like a Bee Gees track at the beginning for me. Yes this has upbeat feel but there is something about it I’m not keen on, it sounds as if even Kylie is a little bored of the track after a while, of course I’m sure you pop fans out there will disagree with me but for me not a great track.

Love Affair is next and for me gets the album back on track, this is a great track that I can see being a single, a solid beat starts the track off and with a jolting chorus this makes it a real keeper and although not my favourite on the album it is certainly up there.

Track 11 is Your Love and is in the same vein as Fragile a slower paced track that has a nice breezy feel to it, I can see this becoming a track both me and my girlfriend can listen to while in the car, it certainly makes you want to be around your loved ones (I’m getting soppy ahhh).

The final track on the album is called Burning Up and starts off rather slow with Kylies’ voice having a sly edge to it then the chorus comes, at first I was expecting it to be very quick but it fails to deliver not only in tempo but also in vocal form, the track carries on like this all the way through with verses being a slower seductive form and the chorus being a mid tempo atrocity. This could have been a great way to finish the album but with such a weak chorus this song becomes a dud.

My Verdict

As someone who doesn’t really go in for all this pop type music this was a really interesting album for me, with some really catchy tracks and some slow tempo efforts this album may have turned my head towards checking other Kylie albums out.

This is certainly an album for all Kylie fans but I think it may find it’s way into the hearts of the less pop loving ones of us out there.

Please note as stated above I’m not a big Kylie fan who knows everything there is to know about this kind of music, I’m just someone who has heard the album and feels it may be of some use to other people who aren’t really into the whole pop scene either.
