...Enya, (Eithne Patricia Ní Bhraonáin,) is an Irish singer who has been performing for many years, as a singer and songwriter. She was born into a musical family in Donegal Ireland in 1961, with her grandmother, father, and mother all being musical performers. Enya began performing with Clannad in the 1980’s, playing the keyboard and doing backing vocals, although she was never recognized as a real member of the band. When Nicky Ryan decided to stop working as the bands producer, Enya teamed up with him to launch her own solo career, with "An Ghaoth Ón Ghrian" ("The Solar Wind") and "Miss Clare Remembers". It wasn’t until 1984 however that she was first credited as Enya, a simplified pronunciation of her name, and the name then stuck. ...I'm a big fan of the album before this one 'Behind the Music' and when i heard this offering had been released i wanted more of the same. Instead i was pleasantly surprised to find that it's an improvement. While the previous album was good with great standout tracks 'Nevermore' 'Sister Surround' and 'The Flood' this album is over flowing with rock anthems from start to finish. This six piece (vox, piano, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, drums & bass) have a full sound that the band are clearly comfortable with and enjoy. The album I purchased off amazon has 12 tracks not 11 as listed on the site, and thank god for it - because the extra track 'borderline' is one of the best on the album, a real rock anthem with [perhaps] references to those in the music industry that are only there for the stardom. ...I must be going through a bit of a mellower stage of life at the moment, hot on the heels of a Loreena McKennitt review comes one for Enya, probably the best known artist working in the same hard to categorise musical field. Like Loreena McKennitt, Enya mixes a range of musical styles, and even languages, to create her own beautiful musical tapestry. Both women borrow from a wide range of cultures from around the world and don't even limit themselves to the here and now, delving back in time as the need arises to create soundscapes full of mystery and timeless wonder. Enya, as I said, is probable seen as the ambassador for this genre and since the release of Watermark in 1988 has sold 44 million album, received a handful Grammy nominations (and two wins) and has managed to propel herself to the position of most successful female solo...
