I bought this soundtrack in the late 80's after watching the film - I have always been a huge fan of Mickey Rourke and think that Angel Heart is at least in his top 3 best films.
The music in the film perfectly matches the visuals and is one of the best examples of music actually creating an atmosphere for a film as well as adding to it.
The jazzy, New Orleans instrumentals like Harry Angel that reappear throughout the film are stunning as are the old bluesy songs that crop up when Harry goes searching for the errant crooner Johnny Favourite...

Advantages: Very good range of music Disadvantages: one or two songs that I wouldn't have chosen to buy individually
...This is my favourite CD at the moment and I listen to it all the time. It was bought for me as a christmas present and I have hardly stopped listening to it since! If you have seen the film then the soundtrack reminds you of various parts of it. It has some excellent artists on it, and also a wide range of different types of music. I also like it because it has made me listen to tracks by artists that I would probably not choose to go out and buy normally, and I have liked what I have heard. After listening to this soundtrack, I would consider going out and buying albums of some of the artists featured....

Advantages: It is a truly atmospheric, relaxing, styalistically varied album! Disadvantages: None than I can recall!
...Having watched the film I decided to get the soundtrack for 'Lost in Translation' because I had enjoyed the music in the film. I can definitely confirm that the soundtrack on its own is almost as good as the film itself!
There is a really great range of tracks, from 'Death in Vegas', the opening tune to the film, to 'Just like Honey', the end track. Also included is my personal favourite, 'Too Young' , the song that you hear a snippet of when Bob and Charlotte are dancing at the Karioke party. It’s a really, really great tune and to hear it in its entirety, rather than just the first part like in the film is really cool!
Also included are various background tracks from the film, which can in fact hold their own as tunes in their own right. These include the aptly named 'On the Subway'- from the part in the film where Charlotte...

Advantages: Every song that appears in the film Disadvantages: There are none that I could think of!
...This CD is probably one of the favourites of my collection, as a self confessed dirty dancing addict it perfectly provides every song in the order they appear in the film.
Much better than the original soundtrack which only gave a selection of the songs.
This CD is great for reliving the film...If like me you have seen it hundreds of times you can even get friends together and re enact the dance routines for each of the songs.
Also perfect for a trivia game I have invented with my friends...play the CD and see who knows what was happening in the film at the time each song was playing.
This leads into a perfect excuse (not that one is needed) to watch the film through again just to see who was right and who was wrong.
The Ultimate Dirty Dancing Collection is the perfect soundtrack to all those girly nights in!...
