Advantages: Griping emotional lyrics, very unique,it feels as if the songs are full of anger and sadness that hold so much raw powere the songs feel as if theyre forced upon you! Disadvantages: Solely a Roger Waters album,no atmosphere nor warmth,a very dark and cold set of songs full of rage and anger!
...Waters concept album!
The final cut has many tales to tell, unimployment, the conservative thatcher years, mining strikes, wars but the most strongest force pulling this album together is the frequent anger and power of Waters in some songs about his dad when he died in the war, when the tigers broke free is that response, the lyrics are perfectly accurate and descriptive, that's the thing about the final cut it is'nt an album of songs,it's an album ... ...to the mood!
The final cut is the BEST TRACK on the album by far,the song builds up with slow drumming and acoustics with piano untill the song gets obltterated and explodes relaesing clouds of magic into the atmosphere,Floyd return with a vengeance the screaming and pleas of Waters coupled by crashing drums intensifies dramatically, the rythm is repeated the same way as if a message is needed to be told but is it too late, never the intense screams ...

Advantages: Well written Disadvantages: self indulgent
The Final Cut is not the best introduction to Pink Floyd as it is essentially a Roger Waters solo album.
Having parted company with Nick Mason and Richard Wright after the Wall album and tour, there was only David Gilmour left to stop the total control of Pink Floyd was complete. However it backfired sensationally as the future would attest.
The songs on this album are very dark and introspective. A topic ranging from what happens to our war heroes ... ...Sunset) and personal neurosis (The Final Cut) not exactly a laugh a minute.
David Gilmour’s contributions are very slight apart from the rocky Not Now John (British workers apathy), which is so at odds with the rest of the album apart from the lyrics, it has Gilmours stamp of class throughout. Elsewhere he only has a few lead guitar breaks to enliven the proceedings. Always the tasteful player Gilmours guitar playing is criminally underused ...

Advantages: Good lyrics and excellent music Disadvantages: Might get a bit depressing if listened to too often
...grittiness and reality, then The Final Cut is for you.
You can see Roger Waters had a great deal of control over the direction of this album - his lyrics really shine through in true Roger Waters style and there is a magnificent saxophone solo.
This album could quite easily be mistaken for a Roger Waters solo album by someone who has Heard his other works and didn't know this was a Pink Floyd album.
I wouldn't recommend this album as an introduction ...

The Wall part 2 Review ofFinal Cut, The [Remastered] - Pink Floydby

Advantages: A classic album. Great Tracks Disadvantages: A little depressing
...of the Falklands war, The Final Cut is written along the same lines as The Wall and is in fact dedicated to Roger Waters father, Eric Fletcher Waters who died in the first world war.
While concentrating on digs at the government of the time, mostly Margret Thatcher, but also on society of the 80's. Tracks such as "Not Now John" is about the consumer, money obsessed feeling of the time. For those who are old enough to remember the 80's your will ... ...Cut and the Gunners Dream but there honestly isn't a bad track on the album. The album is very well put together and there is a definate intro, middle and end. The links between the tracks are sometimes poor but this is due to the age of the album.
As a rule, if you liked The Wall and want a darker album then this is for you. There are some fantastic lyrics and tunes but, after all, what would you expect from Pink Floyd? ...

Advantages: Warm soothing solos and really great lyrics. Disadvantages: None
...This is an another incredible album made by the pinkfloyd. Apart from the lyrics the solos that David Gilmour plays are fantastic as well. The song called The FinalCut in the album has amazing lyrics and to top it off towards the end, the solo that David Gilmour plays is just incredible. Wright's unofficial replacement for the making of the album was maestro Michael Kamen. Having worked previously on The Wall, Kamen seemed fitting to provide the orchestral support to Waters' songs. His work on The FinalCut is mostly superb, with tracks like The Post War Dream and The Fletcher Memorial Home providing great examples of his studious support. This is my one of their favorite albums they have made....
