This is an another incredible album made by the pink floyd. Apart from the lyrics the solos that David Gilmour plays are fantastic as well. The song called The Final Cut in the album has amazing lyrics and to top it off towards the end, the solo that David Gilmour plays is just incredible. Wright's unofficial replacement for the making of the album was maestro Michael Kamen. Having worked previously on The Wall, Kamen seemed fitting to provide the orchestral support to Waters' songs. His work on The Final Cut is mostly superb, with tracks like The Post War Dream and The Fletcher Memorial Home providing great examples of his studious support. This is my one of their favorite albums they have made.
Advantages: Griping emotional lyrics, very unique,it feels as if the songs are full of anger and sadness that hold so much raw powere the songs feel as if theyre forced upon you! Disadvantages: Solely a Roger Waters album,no atmosphere nor warmth,a very dark and cold set of songs full of rage and anger!
,emoted with beutiful acoustic melodies and strumming, the voice gets doubled by another Waters screaming voice ontop of the soft voice adding a complete contrast to the mood!
The finalcut is the BEST TRACK on the album by far,the song builds up with slow drumming and acoustics with piano untill the song gets obltterated and explodes relaesing clouds of magic into the atmosphere,Floyd return with a vengeance the screaming and pleas of Waters coupled by crashing drums intensifies dramatically, the rythm is repeated the same way as if a message is needed to be told but is it too late, never the intense screams erupt into one of Gilmour most beutiful Guitar solos ,sob weep it's beutiful, then Waters drives his voice on and screams to such possesive intensity how could anyone say this isnt the best album track lo!
Not now jon is a bit of a corny joke ...
Advantages: A classic album. Great Tracks Disadvantages: A little depressing
Written at the time of the Falklands war, The FinalCut is written along the same lines as The Wall and is in fact dedicated to Roger Waters father, Eric Fletcher Waters who died in the first world war.
While concentrating on digs at the government of the time, mostly Margret Thatcher, but also on society of the 80's. Tracks such as "Not Now John" is about the consumer, money obsessed feeling of the time. For those who are old enough to remember the 80's your will recognise it.
My personal favourite tracks are The FinalCut and the Gunners Dream but there honestly isn't a bad track on the album. The album is very well put together and there is a definate intro, middle and end. The links between the tracks are sometimes poor but this is due to the age of the album.
As a rule, if you liked The Wall and want a darker album then ...
Advantages: Well written Disadvantages: self indulgent
The FinalCut is not the best introduction to PinkFloyd as it is essentially a Roger Waters solo album.
Having parted company with Nick Mason and Richard Wright after the Wall album and tour, there was only David Gilmour left to stop the total control of PinkFloyd was complete. However it backfired sensationally as the future would attest.
The songs on this album are very dark and introspective. A topic ranging from what happens to our war heroes (The Fletcher Memorial Home) nuclear holocaust (Two Suns in The Sunset) and personal neurosis (The FinalCut) not exactly a laugh a minute.
David Gilmour’s contributions are very slight apart from the rocky Not Now John (British workers apathy), which is so at odds with the rest of the album apart from the lyrics, it has Gilmours stamp of class throughout. Elsewhere he only has ...

Album Notes
Pink Floyd: David Gilmour (vocals, guitar); Roger Waters (vocals, bass guitar); Nick Mason (drums). Additional personnel: Raphael Ravenscroft (tenor saxophone); Michael Kamen (piano); Andy Bown (Hammond b-3 organ); Andy Newmark (drums); Ray Cooper (percussion); The National Philharmonic Orchestra. Producers: Roger Waters; James Guthrie; Michael Kamen. Recording information: 07/1982 - 12/1982. This is not a pretty album. Described as "a requiem for the post war drama" it is Pink Floyd at their most miserable. In addition to the somber lyrics and themes explored by Roger Waters, it was recorded while the band were so fragmented, they had effectively broken up. Gilmour and Waters' feud has been well documented and this could well have been titled THE FINAL STRAW. The only hint of lightness and humour throughout is in "Not Now John," but only in the shape of irony ("Can't stop lose job mind gone silicon"). Not an album to be played at parties or anniversaries.
