I first heard of Snow Patrol about six months ago, as they were a band that had been championed by the same people who had previously championed Belle & Sebastian. I expected when the album came out therefore, something of the B&S ilk: tuneful, lively, and with songs interspersed with piano, woodwind and strings. What it turned out ot be is an album sounding a little like an early nineties guitar band. Don't get me wrong, Snow Patrol are a good band, and Final Straw is a resonable breakthrough album. It isn't however, my particular favourite cup of tea. There's a little too much jingly-jangly guitars for my liking, and although the lyrics are thoughtful and often clever, in my opinion they do not project through the music - which sounds like it's all been done before. The most notable pieces on the album, for me, are the commercial 'Run' and 'Spitting Games', and although there are no tracks that I feel the need to skip past on my car stereo, there are none either that I want to rewind and play over again. It's good background driving music, but the CD will stay in my car. If you are into guitar based Brit-Pop (such as Travis, The Coral or Starsailor), you'll warm to this album quickly. If you're into anything harder, pop or dance, this will probably not be your sort of thing.

Run is a great track, however for higher ratings honey you need to mention more about the band, esp because they are quite new to some people and also mention the tracks on the album and how good you think they are..... let me know if you add more info and i will come and re-read for you :o)

Advantages: Swirling melodies and itchy guitars, thematic and emotive Disadvantages: No real variation in the songs, they're either grunge-y or mellow-y
