Finally Woken - Jem

Advantages: Great tracks with a real 'difference'.
Disadvantages: Three tracks more than needs to be.

~~Jem - Finally woken~~ Jem is a Welsh singer who has had a bit more success in America, and as a soundtrack singer (films and TV, mostly American) than she has as a solo artist. It is really hard to describe her style/genre as it is really quite varied. It is a bit happy electronic but at times sounds a bit like Japanese pop. Whatever her style, and maybe it is quite unique, I think she is a bit good! This is her debut, and only album so far. ...
...good. 8/10. Track 3. Finally woken. Start of the song has waves lashing, seagulls, drum coming in, backing 'distant' vocal. Very dreamy, trancy, soulful, almost echo like effects on her singing. The vocals are truly stunning and the lyrics are predictable, very immature and really quite endearing. I like this track an awful lot. "Child don't worry it'll be okay, sun is out for another day........" Such a summery song. 9/10. Track 4. Save me. ... Read review

...Now not normally a fan of hype I decided to get Jem’s album Finally Woken, that and hearing the stunning single ‘They’. Welsh born Jem is unknown here, in America though she is massive (and I don’t mean round the waist!) They think shes a rock star lol! Here album has been a huge hit… and its partly thanks to Madonna! Did you know Jem wrote the amazing ‘Nothing Fails’ on Madonna’s last album!?! Cool or what? Anyway enough of that… here’s my review on an album you simply HAVE to own! From the opening “Babadaop, Babadaop, Babadaop” ‘They’ shows an instantly catchy (if a little weird) start to the album. This song is perfect. No really. Its got a catchy beat and baseline, Jem’s vocals are low and slightly gravely (the welsh accent shows) over a haunting mix of orchestra and drum and bass… it’s a really clever song as its pop... ...I had heard of JEM for quite a few months, partially because like myself she is Welsh and partially through the promotion and release of the the debut single 'Just a Ride'. The lyrics alone to 'Just a Ride' caught my attention, set to a very catchy, laid back melody it documents a philospophy on life, quite possibly that of JEM herself, in that life should be grabbed, made the most of and not fearing what is around the corner. It really is quite motivating, the corus / tag line gets in your head. A few months later 'Celebrity Love Island' creeped its way into the UK TV schedule. Set in the glory and superb weather of Fiji it had a beautiful summery theme song - this it turned out was JEM's 'Wish I'. ...and style. it would be great for a girly night in!!or a beauty therapist!! I think its one of those albums that appeals to alot of age groups and music catergories. The album is defiantly a hit! and i recommend it to anyone.
