There are bands that throw a bomb into the musical firmament, and leave shockwaves that can be seen for years after inspiring generations to take up guitars and upset their parents. The Ramones were one of those bands, The Happy Mondays were one of those bands, The Beetles were one of those bands, U2 want to be one of those bands, Any band with Phil Collins in it will never be one of those bands, Electric Six are definitely not one of those bands even though they don’t have Phil Collins in the band…… Electric Six are one of those bands that remind us that Rock and Roll is a hell of a lot of fun, and since I like Disco, then a fission of Rock and Roll and disco done this well is awesome. To put it another way for me Disco is Fun and Rock and Roll is LIFE.
Anyway this album blasts into life on Dance Commander a superb synth and grungy guitar dominate this track and it helps fuel my totalitarian fantasies so I am a happy would be dictator look at my moustache and shiny medals on my sexy uniform and worship me………….Electric Demons in Love continues on with the synth and grungy guitars theme and deserves a mention for one of the most superb titles ever…… The Champ likes to boogie and this is what he likes to boogie to “I met my baby in the darkness of the night”. Naked Pictures (Of Your Mother) is just wrong on so many levels It seems to be bout extorting people and is another slice of superb rock and roll disco get down and boogie motherf***er. Danger! High Voltage the song which launched them into fame and again it just superb Disco, the Bee Gees never did disco this good cause they were a bunch of bandwagon jumpers this is the real deal, and if this song does not make you want to get down on it then you are a non-dancing fool, hey there is nothing wrong with snogging old ladies as well…………..
She’s White…………any song that starts with the line “I was born a prisoner in your dungeon of Fish” is ok in my book….. We then slip into the balladry of “I Invented The Night” any song with that title is going to be as corny as hell and it is but oh so wonderfully tongue in cheek and “yeah I invented the night”……… the only thing that can follow that is some “Improper Dancing” with a great funky bass line and some fairly twisted lyrics, this is what good Disco often is sick white guys who can’t dance grooving to black music and there is n crime in that now is there???? And if there was then I’d still do it. After some of that it I s time to go down to the “Gay Bar” opening with a great piece of surf guitar and simply twisted lyrical sentiment who cares if the song is wrong on so many levels the champ is on the floor and he has “got something to put in you” and you know that when the champ is in this mood then there is going to be a “Nuclear War (On The Dance Floor)”(1)…. This is a hard rocker and apparently electric love ain’t no sex crime………..
“Getting into the Jam” is a great piece of white funk with hard rock dispersed into it, but really by this time the album seems to be loosing its inspiration as with “Vengeance and Fashion” it seems that a great idea is now being stretched to it’s elastic limit, but the “I’m the Bomb” comes in with its’ laid back funky guitar is this enough to bring us back to the floor yes cause I’m a man with 20 dollar bills. The final Track “synthesiser” sounds like dodgy 80’s disco and this is only wrong if you take it a a lifestyle choice………..
Singer Dick Valentine recently said in an interview that Electric Six are not going to get any better, nor are they going to get any worse, and I think that their treatment of Radio GaGa was imspired especially dancing on Freddie Mercurys’ grave. A lot of their stuff works better with the video or if you are on the dance floor with a few tequilas in you and a couple of lines of sherbet, not that I would recommend such behaviour. Simply a great fun album inspired in parts and at times the idea is stretched too far.
(1) Sorry that was really bad but I suddenly got inspired
...feature the strange obsession with fire are Electric Demons In Love (‘starting a fire!’), Danger! High Voltage (‘Fire in the disco, Fire in the gates of hell’) and She’s White (‘I was born a dancer in your disco of fire’). Electric Demons In Love is a catchy number, mixing heavy guitar during the chorus with quirky synth during the verse. We are also treated to the Six’s falsetto which, while fitting for the song, would not have got far in a Bee ... ...the first single release from the album and featured a fantastically grotesque video which just makes you watch (or is that just me?!) The simple, twiddly (do you like my prowess at describing musical technicalities) opening guitar lines feature throughout and are a bit of an Electric Six trademark. She’s White is yet another great track, with a bouncy Blur-ish guitar sound throughout and a nice guitar solo. This one I’ll be singing out loud on the ...

Advantages: Brilliant lyrics mixed with a fun and unique style Disadvantages: Thew weak tracks
This album has to be without a doubt the best Disco album of the last thew years, Electric 6 mix funk, punk and most importantly disco to make a highly comical and truly brilliant album!
The band have had a thew hits getting “Danger! High Voltage” and “Gaybar” to quite high positions in the chart within the last year or so. The band are renowned for their suggestive, mildly immature yet highly amusing music style.
Dick Valentine(I can only presume ... ...and he is really the person that makes the band work, without him electric six just wouldn’t be the same. His singing sets the tone of the songs so well and really suit’s the style, his absurd lyrics will make you smile from ear to ear. His entire demean his hilarious and this rubs off on his singing.
The guitaring is really good. I had no idea Disco music could be played on the guitar in such away until I listened to this album. The songs are packed ...

...want to reach into the fire of your heart" 8)Gay Bar - An amazing track and EVERYONE should listen to it, right now infact. It's extremely upbeat and has an excellent rhythm working behind it, the vocals are repetitive enough to sing along to without being annoying. It's an absolutely mad track, where the lyrics are so totally profound and don't really make any sense, but you can't help but smile. The excellent rhythm is sure to make you dance, if ... ...My definite favourite track on this album, and one of my favourite songs at the moment. Fave Lyric - "You're a superstar...at the gaybar" 9)Nuclear War (On the dance floor) - Excellent guitars introducing this track, definitely my favourite part of the song. It sounds pretty similar to the previous track, except without the unbeatable rhythm providing a basis. It's got a wicked rock style although it does sound as though it's just trying to be one ...

Advantages: A couple of Catchy, Cheesy tracks Disadvantages: No real substance to the album
Every now and then there comes an album and a song that bursts into the UK charts and is the making of the band responsible for it. And more often than not these bands tend to hang around for a couple of months and then seemingly vanish again. At the time of writing, despite having two albums after this one, have they I hear you ask, Electric Six seem to have been one of those bands. In 2003 they made a name for themselves with the highly popular ... ...club cheesy classic "Gay Bar".
The Detroit 6 piece seemed to be everywhere in 2003 in the wake of these two singles and it was inevitable that an album would follow. Having formed in 1996 they have undergone 2 name changes before the release of this debut album, Fire, saw them really hit the big time in both the UK and the USA. Since then there have been numerous line-up changes for the band and with 2 follow up albums that haven't had the press ...

Advantages: Begins brilliantly, ends brilliantly, all brilliant inbetween! Disadvantages: Too short, can get repetitive
I first heard this album through a friend and absolutely hated it. It's a short album (13 tracks at 35 minutes) but, to me, it just sounded like 35 minutes of the same song. I borrowed the album again a few months later and fell in love with it. I didn't actually listen to any other CD for a few months - just 'Fire' constantly. It's that good.
The band are famous for the two major singles that were taken from this - Gay Bar and Danger High Voltage. ... ...recognisable riff, with some risque lyrics. Danger High Voltage is an absolute gem, mixing so many different instruments together and guest vocals from Jack White. The third single, Dance Commander, wasn't as big as these others, but is better than them in my opinion, with a quiet beginning and then suddenly getting raucous. I would select other songs to recommend, but there's no point. I recommend every track on this CD. The hilarious lyrics, classic ...

Advantages: Catchy songs, plenty of big loud hits. Disadvantages: A few weak links, can become a novelty soon.
ElectricSix have always been known for their singles 'Gay Bar' and 'Danger, High Voltage'. These were both huge hits here in the UK, both peaking in the top ten. These singles were probably recognised for their great wit and, probably most noticably, the videos that came with them. Everyone remembers for the video for 'Gay Bar' because of the depiction of former president Abraham Lincoln, which I thought was genius.
But there is more to this album then one may expect. I bought this album not knowing what I was going to get, but when I first stuck this in my CD player I was 'blown' away. It was packed with many an original disco punk number, from the highly danceable to the extra highly danceable. I was especially pleased with the tracks 'Electric Demons in Love' and 'Synthesizer', which seemed to blend some charismatic and often ...
Advantages: Some very good guitar playing, Good use of synthesizers, Good voice of Dick Valentine Disadvantages: A few awful songs that should not have been included and would not be missed

Album Reviews
Rolling Stone (6/26/03, p.78) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Dick Valentine screams about how sexy he is...while the other band members...blast their heavy guitars, sax and industrial-strength beats from the Taco Bell to the gates of hell..." CMJ (04/21/03, p.8) - "...FIRE will serve nicely to satiate those who have been hungering for more from [Jack] Black's growling beast of a comic rock band, Tenacious D. Many, if not all, of the tracks here could pass for D compositions..."
