The simple categorisation of "Heavy Metal" really doesn't do this album justice, it doesn't need to be confined to genre. From the crushing wall of riffs and raw power of "March to the Sea" to the beautifully melodic but enigmatic "Aurora Borealis," this album is in my opinion Pelican's finest release. Pelican are an instrumental band, this means no vocals/lyrics which in my opinion just makes the fantastic instrumentation and almost narrative-like structure of the songs all the more impacting. A different kind of metal, for people willing to give more thought to the composition process and perhaps not for impatient listeners (some of the songs are over ten minutes in length).
For fans of artists such as ISIS, Cult of Luna, Irreversible, Russian Circles, Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Ros.
