...The release of this the first album by Ron Sexsmith was a long journey that had started in December 1987 when Ron had not long moved to Toronto he went to see a producer called Bob Wiseman, he liked Ron’s songs and agreed to help him record a Demotape, the producer just had a tiny basement studio this is where the demo was to be recorded, a 4 track demotape was planned.
In the process of recording the demo the 4 tracks turned onto 11 tracks, however Bob Wiseman played for a well-known Canadian band called “Blue Rodeo” and with their busy touring schedule and Bob’s other work commitments the recording of the 11 tracks was stretched over a 3-year period, finally the 11 songs were released as a independent cassette called “Grand Opera Lane” this was early 1991.

Advantages: Classic album - remastered Disadvantages: Don't tell your friends you like it

Stand and Deliver, Prince Charming and Ant Rap perhaps need very little explaining, as they were very obviously huge hits of their day. In fact the first two were number 2 and 3 in the biggest sellers of '81, only beaten by Soft Cells' Tainted Love. Both were number one in the UK, and Ant R ap hit number 3. The rest of the first 10 tracks all really fit well into this Adam era...

1. Time After Time
Alex’s favourite. Wow. The demo showed so much charm, so does the finalised track live up? Yes. The one criticism is the removal of the gunshot, but if you overlook that the track has been mastered to perfection. Webisodes have shown clips of this song and the radio even gave us a preview, but nothing could prepare you for the beautiful chords, melodies and lyrics which definitely lead way to an amazing album of this immense scale. Mixing both the classical sounds with the heavier guitars, weaved among a strong drum beat you know you’ll be humming this one for years to come.
2. Parallel Worlds
Their first and most recent single [9th April 2007 and a re-release on the 7th April 2008], it’s a crowd pleaser, amazing live...
