This is the story of 3 women, reunited by the death of an old school friend. Brenda (Bette Midler), Elise (Goldie Hawn), and Annie (Diane Keaton) are in there 40's, having just been dumped my there husbands for younger women they decide to get there own back.
The story starts with 4 friends graduating from school where they agree to always stay friends, the campagne glasses clink and there the story moves forward to when the women are in their 40's and the first scene shows Cynthia (Stockard Channing) committing suicide, due to her husbands departure, the story then moves on to show you the three other women's separate lives, Annie (a ditzy housewife), Elise (an out of work actress) and Brenda (also seems to be a housewife ...
Advantages: Great acting, great film and plot Disadvantages: None really!

Background
The FirstWivesClub is based on the novel by OLIVIA GOLDSMITH and was an instant number one best selling book. Olivia Goldsmith has since written lots of other great books which are always amusing and comedic but each has their own, powerful (and sometimes quite well hidden) message.
I would highly recommend the book by Goldsmith and also others by her as well (no others have yet been made into films though as far as I know which is a shame!)

Advantages: Excellent Movie Sountrack. Disadvantages: None!
memories of this movie and of the time it was released in the charts to me and I just love recalling it all. This track was released in 1985 and reached number 15 in the billboard charts. The music video to accompany this love song was taken from clips of the St Elmo's Fire movie also. This is an excellent track, that?s an all time favourite to me.

From the film starring Bette Midler, Diane Keaton and Goldie Hawn as three friends who rally together after their husbands betray them, comes this album of new and old songs about female empowerment. The message is stated most clearly by the title of Eurythmics' contribution: "Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves." The opening cut, Dionne Warwick's "Wives & Lovers," is an anachronistic chronicle of the travails of a modern wife, but it fits perfectly into the scheme of things here. The proto-feminist sentiment of "Think" is delivered by the queen of soul herself, Aretha Franklin, and it would be a highlight of any collection. Former Weather Girl Martha Wash puts a fresh spin on the Elton John hit "I'm Still Standing," and the three movie stars themselves take a turn on Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me."
