...The new single from Dinosaur Jr frontman J Mascis with his new band the Fog.
The song sounds like typical Dinosau Jr stuff, which of course makes it fantastic. As per usual J Mascis plays those amazing high pitched guitar solos and grunts his way through 3 superb tracks.
Released on the City Slang label, the three tracks are Where'd you go, Can I tell u stories and Too Hard.
Can I tell u stories is slightly depressing to be honest with ya, featuring some really dark music, but Too Hard sounds like very normal Dinosaur Jr.
This single proves that J Mascis has not lost his touch at all. Quality stuff....

Advantages: It's a work of genius! Disadvantages: It's taken too long to come out.
...Carpenter himself regards this score as among his best. Which is true. While Hallowe'en had all the right atmospheric connotations for the film it complimented, The Fog is actually a very chilling score.
It stands out by itself, to the point where the film acutally serves to compliment the music. It has all the ingredients that characterise Carpenter's work: piano, synth and those lovely middle-of-the-scale counterpoints.
And who needs more than three notes?!
If there's a flaw with the album, it's the time it's taken to come out. Most people who will want this music will have long since forgotten about it now. Publicity for it has been non-existant, and the packaging is a little thoughtless. It hardly compliments the amazing score within.
Other than that, there can be few gripes with this soundtrack. It's a masterpiece....

...training the Japanese troops and I can see the Samurai warriors preparing for battle. The first track for me makes an album. It sets the tone of what may follow. Throughout this track there is the soothing sound of flute and other woodwinds along with Hans Zimmer on the synthesizers. The orchestra plays perfectly. The piece is just over 8 minutes long and for about the last two minutes of it the pace picks up a little and the sound of the deep stringed instruments surrounds you. In the right mind set you could honestly believe that you were there watching the orchestra perform.
Track Two: Spectres in the Fog (4.07)
is a rather dark and quite eerie piece in my opinion. There are a lot of drum beats throughout the piece and Hans Zimmer’s synthesizers add depth to track. It is the piece of music that is played through the first battle scene...
