a good album to relax to
Review of Veneer - Jose Gonzalez by
danpatmore
Advantages: subtle
Disadvantages: maybe too subtle to begin with
Veneer is a strange album. When I first heard it I was fairly non-plussed, it was all very nice but suited background listening rather than any particular attention. The only track that really stood out was ‘Heartbeats’ but only for its familarity due to its use in the Sony Bravia adverts. I didn’t even realise it was a cover by Swedish band ‘The Knives’.
And it stayed that way for quite a while, until earlier this year when in the middle of a bad ... ...– I really discovered this album.
José González has a strange heritage in as much as he is Swedish born by Argentine parents. The album was originally released in 2003 across Europe and didn’t reach the UK until Spring 2005, I believe it followed later in the year for the states. The sound/style is consistent throughout the album, well-played classicial guitar and soft almost forgettable melodies. That is until you really start listening.
At first ...

Leann Rimes, but she sings as well
Review of Best Of LeAnn Rimes, The - LeAnn Rimes by
Udo1
Advantages: Good alternative music, fantastic voice
Disadvantages: none
...it is full with Leanns best songs and some new ones as well. Two of my favorite songs are on both Albums:" Life goes on" and "Suddenly".The new songs on this Album are "We can", "This Love" and "Last thing on my mind", a duet with Ronan Keating, currently No 6 in the Singles Charts.
The album itself is a mixture of ballads and Rock/Country songs which appeals to the broadest section of listeners. There is something for everyone in this album, even ... ...is definetly one of the best albums I have ever bought. I hope this album will make her talent more recognisable in Europe as this kind of music is very rare over here. I would recommend this Album to everyone who wants a change from todays bland HipHop-filled music industry. ...

Review of Greatest Hits - Shania Twain by
LILL07
Advantages: ALL THE BEST SONGS ON ONE CD
Disadvantages: NONE
...only do i have the greatest hits album i also own the first two albums as well her first album come on over and her second album up.
Shania twain has got to be one of the most contempery selling country singers her voice is very versitile she can take a country song such as KA-CHING and make it sound like a pop song yet still keeping her country style.
I got this album as a christmas present so it didn't cost me anything but as this was made in ... ...in places such as whsmith.
The album itself is made by mercury records all the songs on the album are songs taken from her previous albums and they are written by shania herself and co written by r.j. lange.
The insert booklet contains all the words to the songs so you can sing along but if your like me it wont take you long to pick up the words cause you'l be playing it over and over again while your doing the housework.
The songs on the album ...

Full of Timeless country classics
Review of Timeless - Martina McBride by
liz1102
Advantages: Bringing old tracks to the modern audience
Disadvantages: Doesn't really give Martina a chance to shine
...I'm looking at Martina McBride's Timeless album. She's another country star I was lucky enough to see in concert this summer, when she visited Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas as part of her Timeless tour. This album is different to the majority of her other work, in that it is entirely composed of Martina's tributes to classic country songs.

SONGS TO BRIGHTEN A NORTHERN SKY
Review of Bryter Layter [Remastered] - Nick Drake by
Mauri
Advantages: Great songs and music
Disadvantages: Not very well known
...his state of mind.
Bryter Layter is Drake's second and best known album, it build's upon the style and sound of his debut 'Five Leaves Left' and has been described as 'Chamber' Folk primarily for its use of stringed instruments (apart from guitars) and its intimate feel.
A difficulty in characterising Drake's music especially on this recording possibly lies at the heart of his lack of commercial and critical recognition. Drake never fitted in. ... ...Things First

'Bryter Layter' released in 1970 is a clear progression from his debut the rather melancholy 'Five Leaves Left' but there are signs that even at this early stage in his career Drake was prepared to take risks with his music. The use of a variety of unusual instrument (unusual for a folk/pop record of the time) such as Flute, horns, Cello, Viola and harpsichord all lend ...
