I Give This Album To You...
Review of Hundred Miles Or More, A (A Collection) - Alison Krauss by
BlueMidget
Advantages: Some great songs, great voice
Disadvantages: Read the review
...I came to purchase ‘A Hundred Miles Or More’.
Before I continue, I’d just like to say that whilst I have heard some of Alison’s other material, this is the first actual album of hers I’ve owned and so I can’t really comment with regard to how it compares to her others. Instead, I’ll try and rate ‘…Miles Or More’ based on it’s own merits.
~~~ A Hundred Miles Or More ~~~
To give it it’s full title, ‘A Hundred Miles Or More: A Collection’ was released ... ...definitely borderline samey.
‘A Hundred Miles Or More: A Collection’ is perhaps not the best introduction to Alison Krauss. That said, I think there’s plenty songs on the album that most people would be able to enjoy, (assuming you’re not devoted to one particular genre of music). Don’t be put off by Alison being a country/bluesgrass artist, since it is nothing more than a label that doesn’t really do justice to the actual quality of the music. ...
A banjo player? Nothing like George Formby!
Review of Stolen Moments - Alison Brown by
graeme10
Advantages: Different and very engaging
Disadvantages: Only 11 tracks!
Some years ago, a friend who knows I like to push the boundaries of my musical tastes lent me a cassette (yes, it was that long ago!) that featured a collection of bluegrass artists, with some instrumentals included. To my surprise, I loved most of the tracks, especially those featuring the likes of Alison Krause and also The Cox Family. When the film "O Brother Where Art Thou?" was released, I was pleased to hear music by both used as part of the ... ...my 'discoveries' until recently and the acquisition of the CD "Stolen Moments", by accomplished and acclaimed banjo player Alison Brown. A banjo player? You might think I've gone off my head - visions of George Formby singing "When I'm Cleaning Windows" no doubt immediately spring to mind. Well, you'd be wrong, since this album is nothing like that. Hearing a short snatch of one of the instrumental tracks ("The Sound Of Summer Running") beforehand ...
A great guide to artistic folk.
Review of Strange But True - Kathryn Tickell by
dmilligan935
Advantages: Great tracks prefomed by Kathryn and some great musicans.
Disadvantages: A few weird tracks which require some knowledge.
...album 'There may be some strange moments - but its from the heart, and its as true as it gets...' Here's a breakdown of the tracks;
1. Side Echos, Down the Side - Kathryn performs this track on the pipes with saxophonist Andy Shepard. The side is one of Newcastle's oldest streets, and is a tune that was never recorded or named ever before, these tow tunes were written for the opening of the Gateshead Millennium bridge. This track gives you the feeling ... ...cd comes across as slightly strange with Kathryn kneeling in a barn with a glass of champagne in her hand, but i guess this fits in well with the album title. The inlay sleeve is full of information about herself and about the groups, musicians that are also featured in the cd. The tracks which contain vocals have the lyrics also included in the inlay sleeve. There are some nice pictures as well as quotes from other musicians in the sleeve. Value ...
Brooks Bridges the gap
Review of In Pieces - Garth Brooks by
runrig2
Advantages: Life invigorating rebellious country music
Disadvantages: contemporary country lovers may not like
Title: In Pieces
Performer: Garth Brooks
Genre: Country
Sub Genre: Contemporary Country
Release Date: 04/03/2002
Original Release Year: 1993
Garth Brooks is an American country singer/songwriter from Yukon Oklahoma and for those that have seen that constant annoying advert for Who Wants to be a Millionaire, his first name is Troyal. Garth Brooks' success is legendary with several albums going diamond he has sold between 100 and 200 million ... ...and finds a fan base in the most unlikeliest of places once discovered. In Pieces is Garth Brooks studio album out of six to date.
In Pieces
In Pieces to date has sold over 8 million albums, an incredible feat. Garth Brooks is very well known by his fans for having very high octane, energetic, too much caffeine type live concert performances and In Pieces is as close as you can get to one of his shows musically. What i mean is that this album ...
JACK SAVORETTI - Deluxe Newcomer BRIT AWARD?
Review of Between The Minds (Deluxe Edition) - Jack Savoretti by
JASON1970SMITH
Advantages: Beautiful Acoustic Guitar Poetical Folk Pop Ballads
Disadvantages: Very few if any
Jack Savoretti has set the UK alight with his Debut Album 'Between The Minds' Deluxe. Not only a talented guitarist with a voice that sounds stunning but also lyrics and music that flows almost poetically. If there's a BRIT newcomer award then my vote goes to Savoretti. The CD's ooze quality, a blend of Bob Dylan, Tom Baxter, Damien Rice, Simon & Garfunkel, Nick Drake, Neil Young and James Blunt. Songs such as 'Dreamers', 'Dr.Frankenstein', 'Between ... ...Band' are simply fantastic, CD2 unplugged includes Live songs and a spine chilling brilliant version of Johnny Cash's 'Ring Of Fire'.To top it off a beautiful version of 'Between The Minds' with piano accompaniment. If you love ballads, songs with meaning, acoustic guitar, good quality songs, poetical stories and music at it's best,you'll love these CD's. I can't give 11/10 so it's 10/10 with STARS ON. ...
